Root New SDHC Card Help

Hi All,
Because of your help my phone is rooted and I need help with both formatting and/or partitioning my new 16gb (class 6) sdhc card. I downloaded and installed "SD Formatter 3.0" from the SD Card Association.
I intend to use a good chunk of this card for music and would like to have a separate partition for the phone and it's apps. Does that make sense?
I'm running Win7 Pro.

Any suggestions or tips are welcome.

Thanks........Tom

There is no reason to partition your SD card and honestly I have never heard of anyone doing this. I cannot think of any benefit of doing that. In fact, it might confuse Android because it expects music to be in a certain place. You also should not have to do any format. Just stick it in and it will work. Keep in mind that this is a Linux system and not Windows. Windows can cause havoc across a drive, but Linux does a much better job at handling data.

Thanks once again for the reply UKCatFan. I'll do what you suggest but first I'll back up the files and folders on the present (2gb) drive to put them on the new one. Will I be able to copy them to my PC and then from the PC to my replacement (16gb) card? And when I finally put some music on the new card should I make a new folder and name it Music to put mp3s in? These questions seem a bit silly I must admit but I'm somewhat of a novice when it comes to Linux. They say the dumbest question is the one not asked, but I may prove them wrong. ;)

Thanks again.....Tom

The folder "music" will probably already be there. Yes, that is where you put the music files/folders. I also copied my 2GB card over to my 8GB card with no problems.

Thanks again UK. Had to format the card for the phone to see it. Did it on the phone. Created Music folder after copying 2gb contents to 16gb card. Worked out great.

Cheers.......Tom

Just for future reference, here's the folder structure for (personal) SD Card media:

\Alarms - Media scanner classifies all media found here as an alarm sound.
\Download - Miscellaneous downloads.
\Movies - All movies (excluding those taken with the camcorder).
\Music - Media scanner classifies all media found here as user music.
\Notifications - Media scanner classifies all media found here as a notification sound.
\Podcasts - Media scanner classifies all media found here as a podcast.
\Pictures - All photos (excluding those taken with the camera).
\Ringtones - Media scanner classifies all media found here as a ringtone.

Some installers may use these folders but most will install to the \media\ directory to keep their files separate.

If someone wanted to set up a swap partition on their SD card, they might want to format it. I've read about people doing this.
