Lurker
4 days in with the Victory, coming from the HTC One V. The One was a nice little phone at first (coming from the Triumph) but the Victory is a big improvement in performance. There are some issues and hoping you can help:

  • Battery life is improved but not as much as I hoped and see some of you get 2 days. I get through the day and put on the charger when I go to bed. Would something like Juice Defender help?
  • Can not take a screen shot to save my life. Read on here, Power + Home buttons... I have tried at least 100 times and all it does is take me to a screen that shows last used apps/screens
  • Reboot the phone and I have to reset some preferences, swiftkey everytime and occasionally the time.
Would root/mod help? I'm a newbie but added CM7 to the Triumph.

Also, I paid $199 for the V and see the LG F3 is now $149. I've read they are similar but which phone would be the better option?

Thanks

The screenshot takes timing. You gotta hit them at just the same time and hold for a couple seconds. (Power and home). Those are the keys though.

This has the best battery life of any VM phone I have used, I had quite a few. I can get a day with very heavy use, and that is great.
To take a screen shot hold home and power for a second.
I have not been able to switch the default keyboard :(. That is pretty much the only thing I don't like.

I only get about a days battery out of my Victory. Battery life will depend largely on what's installed and how you use it. I don't use any power saver type apps so can't chime in on those.

Screenshot does work. I press power button first and then immediately press home button then hold them both until it takes screenshot. It takes a second or two.

I had same issue with the Samsung keyboard always defaulting back even though I'd set SwiftKey. I ended up removing the Samsung keyboard and that took care of it. Doing that requires root.

I have the Victory ictory and my wife has the L3. Performance wise they seem about the same. I prefer the Victory but that's my opinion. The Victory gets better 4G performance, the L3 seems to have issues hanging onto 4G in low signal areas. The L3 has a killer screen. Very crisp, clear and vibrant. The L3 also has a bit better feel.

Install Google Keyboard from Android Market; works great here.

Also I agree about battery life. I had an Optimus S so granted it's been a while between phones, but I run all the things I ran on my Opti on this and it has far more battery by the end of the day.

Screenshots were tricky.. You have to hit them both at the same time. Took me a few times before I got it. Hold them down for like 2 seconds.

I found the screenshots finicky, but workable. Additionally, best battery life of any VM Android phone I"ve owned (comparable to my old feature phones, too!).

On the matter of keyboard: Root, freeze/remove the Samsung keyboard. It'll keep trying to reset itself as default every few days, otherwise.

If you're running stock any extra battery drain is likely to be either syncing, bright screen or bad reception.

Everything I've used has had the same battery life, given similar clocks & governors.

At stock speed (1.2) you should expect:
1% drain every hour or two @ idle.
~7% / hr regular browsing.
~10% / hr gaming.

Power saving mode will cut 1/3 the clock speed, but scrolling is noticeably less smooth.

Syncing regularly checks for email/Facebook/etc notification updates.

Essentially a whole bunch of background data.
