New Smart Phone User

Hi my name is Dave from Wisconsin - I just purchased a new Samsung Galaxy 4 Mini from U.S. Cellular. I have never had a smart phone before - only had a glorified cell phone with 300 minutes for texting and basic phone use. So, I got a smart phone for the same price I paid before, but not I only have 300 mb of data which I have setup and control on the data usage of the phone. And I know when I am at home I am using WI-FI only. But - when I go to work (no WI-FI) how can I assure myself I am not using data with the phone just being on standby? I clicked RESTRICT BACKGROUND - & unchecked AUTO SYNC in the Mobile settings of the phone. Did I answer my own question and am now good to go? You see I am not big at checking email, being on the internet much (except for weather sites of live radar) - so I am trying to get the most bang for bucks. Thanks for any information you provide...Dave

Hello! Welcome to AF! You can turn your mobile data off in the settings! Settings, connections tab, go to more settings mobile networks and turn off data! Apps can use data while updating!

On mine i leave everything OFF unless i wish to specifically use it: data, wi-fi, GPS, bluetooth.

There is a option to force updates only when Wi-Fi is on so i have that set ON; i usually turn Wi-Fi on overnight, and in come the updates.
