New Speed Fix = Quadrant > 2000

Thanks. I'm most interested in the write times in teh file system test. Create 1k is like 3.xx stock and write 1m is about 9.xx seconds roughly.

i did the ext3 SD card fix first and i noticed a significant different in how quickly everything ran on the phone. then tried this fix and it didnt work at first so i reflashed to stock and did it. its pretty much as quick as it was with the ext3 fix except its much easier to apply and remove if i ever have to. quadrant scores were in the 1100s with the ext3 fix and with this fix i get around 2000 every time.

There is definitely a huge increase in performance, but these numbers are false. I think its similar to the droid x, this fix uses a buffer which holds the information and thats basically what gives you insane off the wall I/O scores. Faster-yes, a score of 2200 that really means 2200? Doubtful.

These speed fixes don't like me. This is the second one I've tried that hasn't worked for me. They go through the install just fine, but the first time I reboot and try to boot up again, the screen goes black after the logo screens. Thankfully, that's nothing that Odin3 couldn't fix, but still...frustrating. Though...given some of the comments I've read here and elsewhere, perhaps this is a blessing.

If you take a test and get all the answers right, does that A really mean an A? Yes, of course it does as the it show you know the answers to the questions on that test. Real world ability and performance may be another issue altogether.

What do YOU think a 2200 score means?

a very large phallus. my score was 2260, you do the math.

Why not wait for 2.2 instead of risking having a brick?

2.2 is suppose to improve CPU performance 2x-5x, and memory management up to 20x.

For the normal user, that more than enough umph!

A score of 2200 means that quadrant standard was not designed to work with a buffer system like this.

If you guys actually cared to read through the xda forums, there was a much more technical description of why the score jumped so ridiculously high. My score was 950. Yes, its faster now than it was, but for a 1200 pt jump it should be making me breakfast right now.

xda-developers - View Single Post - [UTIL] One Click Lag Fix

It makes sense, and Im not saying the phone isnt very fast now, just saying 2000+ seems a bit ridiculous

You're right, Quadrant scores are heavily inflated with ALL the fixes. Basically what's happening is the file systems are using a kind of delayed write, it writes the commands into buffer, then executes them, causing inflated quadrant scores. I've gotten as high as 2560 with the overclocked kernel and the ext2 fix, but the phone wasn't any faster than it was when my scores were 1100 with the overclock kernel.

Plus the risk of loosing data associated with this fix in particular caused me to drop it. The overclock kernel is fine with me. The only downsides are wake lag and a slightly hotter run temperature.

In the end you choose what to do with your phone. Like I said before all these fixes have their inherent risks and advantages.

Ive gotten a couple random shut offs with this, but nothing too serious. I mean the phone is extremely fast, faster than mimocams fix. What are the possible issues with losing data? I mean... corrupt files?

Worst case scenario is having to do a Nandroid restore. And loosing all the data from the moment you applyed the fix to crash. I noticed alot of app instability but not full crashes when I was running this. But I only ran it for about an hour.

My apps all seem to be running just fine. The only thing is that sometimes when the screen is off, the phone will just turn itself off and I have to pull the battery out to get it back on. I know other people who havent done this have the same problem, but Im going to post about it on xda

There is a removal script included. Run it and you'll revert back. It'll still leave an inactive script and a few backup copies of data directories, that you can manually delete.

I actually realized that I had my setCPU profile set too low for when the screen is off and thats why it was turning off. No problems since, just an incredibly fast phone.

How do you revert BusyBox back to 1.17 if you have 1.18 already installed? I have the 1.17 apk but I can't seem to remove/uninstall 1.18

The lagfix discussed in this thread only works with 1.17.1

I figured it out, though. (I just removed BusyBox Installer then sideloaded the older version and installed it that way)

I just applied the lagfix successfully. The phone is definitely noticeably faster, but not as fast as I expected it to be given everyone else's anecdotes. I would say this is about the amount of improvement I expected Froyo to bring -- so maybe after the Froyo OTA it'll be super duper fast.

Played around some more ... thoughts:
  • App launching is marginally faster (noticeable but not THAT noticeable)
  • Certain apps are significantly faster, especially Layar, YouTube, Yelp (Monocle)
  • The Market is significantly faster, especially installation of apps, which no longer causes stutter/freeze
  • Maps stutters a little bit at first but afterwards is smooth
