Help New Sprint update breaks Swype?

If you already had swype before the update, you need to uninstall it (and you might as well uninstall the Swype installer), then reboot.

To uninstall, go to any home screen, press Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->Swype.... uninstall.
 
If someone could help me I would appreciate it...i had swype on my evo version 2.15.xx and when I did the ota update it actually downgraded me to version 2.7.xx. I signed up for the new beta but the installer won't install the new version until I uninstall the old version, but the box to uninstall it is greyed out.

Once you did the OTA, you now have Swype in ROM. You can't update it (not until Swype issues an update for the ROM version). You can't uninstall it because it is in ROM.

So, you don't need the Betas, you already have Swype in ROM.

BTW, I have yet to notice any differences between the Beta Swype and the Swype contained in the 3.70 OTA update.
 
Try the All Things Root Evo subforum - there's a rooted version of this stock rom.

If you're on another rom altogether, head over to swypeinc.com and sign up for the beta.
 
ya problem is i use the jiminy rom. bc i have my evo flashed to cricket. I tried going to the site earlier today, got the installer.. and it said ERROR : Swype for EVO is available on the latest OTA update. lol :( FAIL

How did you get it back?

I had Swype beta on my unrooted Evo. Got the update this morning. Got a Swype error message ever 5 secs., so I de-selected it in menu>settings>keyboard. Found this thread, so I uninstalled Swype and the installer.

Now when I got to menu>settings>keyboard, it just has Swype settings, but no where do I see where to toggle Swype to be my default keyboard. I turned on/off my phone. I also turned it off, took out the battery, and turned it on.

Help appreciated.

edit: Found it in the comments section. For anyone still looking to turn on Swype, you need to long press in a text input field, for instance, go to your messaging/email, tap the field to bring up the keyboard with the blinking cursor. Long press in that field with the blinking cursor, and it'll bring up a menu option "input method". Select Swype or default keyboard there.

go to an area where you input text and longpress. Select "Input Method", then "Swype"
