Root New system update?

I just got a notification on my phone asking me if I wanted to update. It says the update is 30.5 mb so its not jelly bean. Anybody know anything about the update?

Well, it's on Samsung open source as version MB3. The file name indicates it is ICS. I don't know what it holds, though.

Strange it doesn't show as an "update2" but they probably just didin't name it correctly. The MB3 update is about 20MB/s more then the last update you guys had (source comparison), which was the same for the Rush users. Probably the same update but with the few differences in applications.

Thew new update runs a little smoother on the Galaxy Rush, and I've noticed a few small UI tweaks and a lot of system apps get patches.

I'm downloading the source so I'll have a new kernel build up tomorrow for you guys. Just fyi.

Edit: This is actually the 3rd update for us (Galaxy Rush) and 2nd update for the Reverb I guess. The update is on the Galaxy Rush - Samsung.opensource site also

The update from opensource.Samsung.com that I'm downloading right now says it's 184mb...seems like more than a few tweaks to me...:hmmmm2:

Edit: it doesn't say "update" ad i'm not sure what to make of the read me files..should this be flashed thru CWM, side loaded, update zip-file or what?

All of the source zips on samunsung open source site, whether they say update or not include everything. Only difference is updated/changed files from the previous released source. fyi.

The LK7 update for the Rush had that same size difference on 20MB/s. It's just baseband and other small fixes and updates.

No idea how the update affects ROMS but I updated through Virgin Mobile and although I did lose root all I had to do was follow the simple ministro/poot steps for a re-root...

Have you noticed what has been updated/fixed/changed?
Is it nice and stable?

Still haven't received update notification on my Rush.

is the whole rom in there?

No, it's just the open source parts Samsung is required to release to be GPL compliant. They have to release it. If Samsung did release the full source for this baby we would have CynagenMod, the newest Stock Android 4.2.2 (and nightlies if we wanted of new updates developers are constantly merging into AOKP) and any other ROM we wanted to put on this with minimal effort :-)

Unfortunately this is not the case. Just a little info for ya there.

Anyway,
-the MB3 package still includes everything from the previous updates so I would have to guess that something - a few apps or something (because its 20MB smaller) - was removed on this MB3 baseband update.

Whats strange to me is that the update (Update2 LK7 baseband) us Rush owners got about 2 months ago, added that 20MB that seems to be removed in this new MB3 update.

Who knows though, we shall see. I'll update when I found out what has actually been changed or removed, if any are interested.

I want to apply the update but have yet to be notified and the zip file in this thread aborts if u try to install. I am using a CWM recovery. Do I need to reinstall stock recovery to get either the notification or to install the zip update?

Thanks in advance for the help.

you have to be complete stock to receive it and install it.

I didn't get any notifications from VM...even checked my phone manually for updates, nothing. So I went to Sam's OS site & found the file myself. Downloaded it to my pc, put it on my phone's ext. sd, & tried flashing thru CWM...nada. I even tried renaming the file 'update.zip' (thinking maybe CWM was ignoring the [prefix].zip), same result.

For everyone who's having trouble receiving or installing the update, your best bet is to go back to full stock via Kies and then trying again.

when you say full stock, are we talking 'un-rooted' stock?
Because I have reflashed stock with odin like, a zillion times already trying to get P.T. v2.4 to work (and still no luck there either, btw)

Martinez, I'm running your super stock v 1.1a and it won't stop bugging me about that update.

On a side note, I flashed Christophorus' baseband update and then tried to install Samsung update. The samsung update failed the signature verification of CWM and now the phone thinks I'm up to date. YAY!

Yes, "un-rooted" stock. Instead of using Odin, use Kies to flash stock.

I have just updated two "rooted" Reverbs with stock ROM and recovery. No need to unroot before the update if the ROM and recovery are stock. Update completed just fine but I had to root again after the update. Superuser.apk, su binary, busybox were still there and they worked after rooting again, i.e. update does not wipe /system and /data but dalvik-cache was wiped.

I swear this update is never going to work for me... Is it because I'm rooted? I'm running on stock rom rooted and I can't get the update to go either with stock recovery or CWM, same error each time, something wrong with the file, error 7. Before booting into recovery it says the file downloaded and verified. Looks like even though I updated with the Baseband MB3 zip in the other thread it's still checking for updates. Any ideas from folks?
