New things with GB?

So I got the GB update. Phone seems to be a bit zippier, pulldown menu buttons look different, but other than that, I'm noticing nothing else different. Am I missing something, or does the move to GB just involve a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff?

Wondering if there are new apps or settings that I'm just not seeing for some reason. Thanks.

Mostly behind the scenes stuff, things you don't see, but they're there; working in the shadows to make your phone better. :D

But seriously... let's start a list of the things that changed.

  • Faster GPS Locking (GPS was horrible on EE4).
  • Much more reliable data connections, no more dropping 3G or 4G data. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to throw my phone out the window of my car while trying to stream music on it only to find that as soon as it hopped to another tower (tower hand-off) the data connection was dropped.
  • Much more responsive user interface.
  • Better memory management.
  • More bloat? Oh wait, that wasn't a "plus". :p
  • Better text selection. On EE4 it was a guess as to whether or not you selected the text you want to on screen.

But that's just the beginning of some things that changed between EE4 (2.2.1) and EP4D (2.3.6).

My phone was never all that bad with Froyo, expect when I didn't delete old text messages and the GPS would never lock. I still have problems with my GPS not locking quickly and now I don't have the availability to wifi tether for free on Gingerbread.

My phone is 100x faster after the update. Now to explore rooting to ditch the bloatware.

Prior to the new gingerbread update when sending an mms I could add text and attach pics and sounds. Now you can only attach one item. Is there a way around this?

Just got am update this morning....apparently the wifi tether app by svtp available on the market has been fixed to work with gingerbread!! that is great news!

Nope, it has to be rooted for WifiTether to work.

I bought SVTP (SVTech Partners) from the market for a $5.00 one time charge. It's called "Wi-Fi Hotspot". I am NOT rooted. It works perfectly. I used for a solid 10 days when on vacation. My laptop was showing speeds of 20.1 down and 7.6 up. It also has a widget so you can turn it on or off with one click from the home screen. If you are on Wi-fi when you toggle it on it automatically turns on LTE or 3g and shuts wi-fi off. When you toggle the hot spot off you must manually turn wi-fi back on if you want. The developer just updated it to work with GB on the DC. I tested it this morning and it works fine.

Hope this helps.

Do I need to redownload it, or will it get an update?

I went and told Market to update it after getting an email from Developer that it was fixed! Great support for a wonderful app. I'll be purchasing a 2nd copy for my wifes Charge soon.
