New Thoughts on Gingerbread for Inspire

Now that we have seen that the HTC Desire cannot get the Gingerbread update because of lack of certain requirements, will the Inspire not be getting the update?

They have to desires though. The have the HTC desire then the HTC desire HD which is pretty much the inspire I believe. The desire is a weaker phone so we might he alright.

There are any number of Gingerbread custom roms available for the Inspire - I have had a Gingerbread rom of one sort or the other on my Inspire since the day I rooted it. So what's the big deal about an OTA update to 2.3.3? If you want it, it can be had tonight, for free - although if you like it, you really should make a PayPal donation to the developer.

The issue isn't Gingerbread...it's Sense. My understanding is that Sense is over 500MB by itself. The Desire only has 512MB or something. Not near enough for Gingerbread AND Sense.

The desire hd already has the gingerbread update. I frequent that forum, because the DHD is practically identical.

Last time I talked with att about android updates they said that they work with the manufacturer of the phone to make sure the update is good to go for the phone then they release the update. The samsung captivate update for 2.2 wasn't released until this past Feb however verizon (fascinate) and sprint (epic) got the update released before the captivate

And from what I have heard i believe the evo just got the Gingerbread update like a week ago.

Yeah, I do the same. The Desire HD forum over on XDA Forums is where the newest roms are located and, for the most part, they can be installed directly onto an Inspire 4G phone.

Well if left up to att we might see it by Christmas*

*delivery by christmas of any year not guaranteed.

Yeah. This is another reason why carriers suck. I wish that the hardware was separate from the service. We should just be able to buy the phone we want with the stock OS and then add whatever modifications we wish. Then we should be able to choose the cellular services we wish to run on our phones.

Instead we get phones loaded with crap we don't want/need and very slow if any upgrades to phone software. :(
