Help New Thunderbolt owner and problems with Bluetooth

Hi, I'm a new Thunderbolt owner (3 weeks) and I'm having massive problems with my Bluetooth in my Kia Sorento. Worked great for 12 days with no need to "re-pair" or re-connect. I just got in the car and it worked.
But then something happened. All of a sudden I can't get it to recognize my phone and it keeps shutting down.
it says "paired but not connected."
Pushing the BT button on my phone doesn't make it work.

I've also had the "downloading" phone book problem. It seems that it can never finish, even after 30 minutes of waiting patiently.

Has any solved this problem?

Welcome to the Android Forums!

You may want to post your question to the HTC Thunderbolt forum to see if any fellow T-bolt owners have encountered a similar issue.

Additionally check with KIA to see if they have updated bluetooth firmware for your car...

Hello new Thunderbolt owner! I'm going to make an attempt at trying to help you with the Bluetooth problem:

First of all, sometimes signals can be finicky with Bluetooth, and it's very rare for the connections for two devices that link to each other via this way to work every time, all of the time.

It's not that there's anything wrong with either device, it's that there's a LOT of interference that can happen which, you or anyone else, may not now about.

The good thing is that you've managed to connect both and they've worked this far, fairly well! ;)

So what you need to do is while you're in your car, follow these steps.

Press the BT button on your phone and wait for the BT symbol to appear on your phone. Then Select: Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks>Bluetooth Settings

from there you'll see under the heading "Bluetooth devices" where you will see it say, "paired but not connected." (just like you mentioned in your original post)

Press (or select) that portion of the text. What it should do is force the bluetooth to kick in and connect with the car.

Hopefully, it should be as easy as that! Let me know what happens when you do this and if it doesn't work, I'll try and help you with other fixes that are simple which you can do yourself without having to visit a store and all that jazz.

Good Luck!

Thank you very much! I did those things. But my husband finally figured out the problem and this trick may help others struggling with this.
He went to the car settings and turned off the "contacts." He said that made the difference! And it worked like a dream all day long as I shopped, stopping at multiple places.

I'm having the same issue. I have a Jawbone that I used with ease with my blackberry, by I just bought the Thunderbolt and can't get it to pair at all. I've followed the directions for JB precisely -- when I Scan for Devices, the TB picks up my computer's bluetooth but no Jawbone. How do I fix this?? Help! :)

I have a 2011 Sorento too. My TB worked fine with Bluetooth since the day I got the phone until the OTA update, now the Bluetooth doesn't work at all. If I reboot the phone while in the car, it'll pair up for a while. If I leave the car, the Bluetooth icon on the phone still shows "connected". The only way I can get it to work again when I come back to the car is to reboot the phone.

The update has totally ruined this phone for me. Bluetooth doesn't work, and the phone is so laggy it's hard to use anymore.

I have rebooted (obviously) multiple times and pulled the battery. May try a factory reset next but I'm loathe to do that if I don't have to.

This phone has definite Bluetooth problems. I've been having pairing with my 2011 Audi q5 since day 1. Thought the OTA fixed but the problems are back. Previous phone was an incredible which worked fine.

I had the Incredible before the TB, and it always worked flawlessly over BT. Even the TB worked perfectly with my BT head unit until this update, now it's useless.
