Root New to all this, help please

Hi, I just got my droid charge last week. I'm interested in rooting it and having all the latest updates, mods, etc. and I've been reading a lot but all this talk about odin, kernels, mods, roms, etc. is really confusing. I'm on ED1, and have been refusing to do any OTA updates just in case, but I'd like to see some of the cool stuff this phone could do. Like I said, I've done a lot of reading already, but it's all really confusing to me, and I don't want to mess anything up.

I've hacked and modded other electronics in the past, and am good at following directions, but nothing has seemed this complicated before. I don't even know where to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First let ee4 take place of ed1..then go to xdaforums.com and go to the verizon droid charge forum, there you will see tge development forum. In there is all your answers that you need. Just to clarify some stuff..odin is like flashing but its called odin basically its a life saver if you brick your phone. Roms, kernels and themes are the things you need to make your phone do different things and look different too.
