New to Ally - optimize

I keep coming back to the feeling that I just don't know if this is enough device for you. You can still get the $15 data plan on any of the other android devices (BTW the ally runs andriod, but it is not a Droid phone. The X, D2, Incredible, and Eris are the flagship "Droid" line of phones. If you don't think there is a difference ask those with the "Binged" Fascinate ;))

I'm not into the rooting game yet as I feel my Ally works just fine with just Launcher Pro and some apps I added. It can run one and half day easily under moderate to medium usage. The call quality and GPS performance is excellent. The only limitation of Ally is small screen and small memory (both RAM and internal storage) compared to top of the line phones. Spec wise it's on par with Droid 1 at least or little better.

In your list of so called flagship "Droid" line of phones, how can you include Eris? That's even worse performing phone than Ally, which Verizon discontinued already. DX is too huge for me to consider and I don't like its camera bump on the back. D2 would be more suitable for me, but I'm not fan of Motorblur UI in the Droid phones either. If I want to upgrade from Ally, I would rather go to Binged Fascinate. Bing is not such a big deal as its haters make it out to be because there are so many ways to get around it and put the Google back on it. Just my two cents on the current android phones in Verizon...

I'm not convinced there's anything wrong with your Ally. I think it is all too likely that it's just some step or the order in which you are doing things that's causing your problems. I would highly recommend getting on the irc chat some evening and letting the guys walk you through setting up the phone. You would be surprised how much better it can be with just a bit more effort and experience. Just my 2 cents worth...

Well actually its a common misconception that the ally is on par spec wise with the D1 because the stock clock speed on the Ally is 600 mghz and the Droid 1 was 550. Its not true at all, the Ally is built off of a very old Arm11 processor without a dedicated GPU. While the droid had a newer more efficient processor with a dedicated GPU. The Droid 1 was a much faster, much more smooth device.

I can include the Eris in the list of "Droid" devices because it was branded as such by verizon. The Droid name is trademarked by lucasarts Verizon uses it to brand certain android phones. The Droid 1, 2, X, pro, 2 global from Motorola. And the HTC Eris and Incredible where branded "DroidS"

It has since come to light that Verizon must incorporate Bing maps and Bing search in all android devices not branded with the "Droid" name.

I didn't say that Eris is not branded as Droid phone. I just questioned how it can be included in flagship android phone line. Its spec is clearly below Ally CPU and screen wise.

You are probably right on the CPUs in Ally vs Droid 1. However, in real world comparison it doesn't seem to be better phone other than a little bigger screen. That's based on my comparison with Droid 1 of a few my friends.

Of course it's my opinion based on spec research and real world comparison. As for the Eris though, I know some people who upgraded to Ally and being much happier. So it's not only me...

I had the eris, and in my opinion it was a superior device. The sheer amount of roms and who they were put them out was outstanding. Again my opinion with which you have every right to disagree. :)

Not to steer the conversation back on topic or anything, but even without an oc (for whatever reason) i am very happy with the device. It's no powerhouse, but i have no need for a powerhouse.
