Help New to Android - Lookout, avast, need both ?

Do I need both avast and Lookout?

Well Lookout will let you track a stolen or missing phone. There's two other good options for that-- Where's My Droid and Android Lost. So you don't NEED that function, but it's good to have and you might as well since it's free. But as far as an app for virus protection-- I see absolutely no need for that.

Nope, neither. The media love exaggerating the whole 'malware' thing in Android, the truth is, if you stick to Google Play Store and Samsung Hub for your app and gaming needs you'll be safe, it's when you go to dodgy sources that things get a little unsafe.

You can use Lookout for tracking though as said above.

You should also consider PREY (Open source anti-theft solution for laptops, phones & tablets – Prey) since it will help you recover your device (cellphone, laptop, or tablet) if it gets stolen.

I like it because you can give it "administrator" rights which means it cannot be uninstalled without a password.

One feature I like in Lookout is Lock Cam...it takes a picture of the person who is trying to unlock your phone if it is incorrectly entered 3 times. Sends you an email of the culprit.
