Help New to Android - poor battery life though

I'm convinced there's still something up with my battery. For example, I plugged it in for about 5 hours last night while I slept. I then topped it up to 100% while at work today and it is currently sat at 89% battery remaining (7hrs 50mins since unplugged). This may seem ok but I've barely used it today and EVERYTHING is switched off - wifi, background data, bluetooth, gps etc etc and brightness is set to minimum. I've probably made 2 short phone calls (less than 3 mins each) and sent about 5 text messages.

Does that seem normal

Edit

Battery usage shows as:

phone idle 51%
cell standby 35%
display 10%
voice calls 2%
Android system 2%
dialer 2%

I'm currently using ADW launcher with zero widgets and I've even removed the digital clock from the home screen.

I was using Helix but found it to be a little flakey and got a number of force closes.

Hopefully the Android 2.1 update will save some battery life but that still doesn't explain why some people here are able to get much longer battery life than others :(

Yep me too, but i have tryed adw and helix and many more, but i still go back to s/e's home.... I like it

But i have also installed juicedefender and when the screen is off much of the time it will help also to save battery

Forgive me if I'm wrong but aren't you just using Juice Defender to switch off wifi, background data etc at certain points in time? I've got all that switched off for the majority of the time, so it's not like I leave my phone sat with wifi, 3g enabled when I'm not using it. I've literally got EVERYTHING turned off :(

Hearing this really makes me question whether I have a faulty battery or not

What sort of usage are you putting through it to charge every 2 days?

my gmail/contacts/calendar auto sync, timescape every 15 min. about 100 sms 1-10 mms 1-5 phone calls @4 min. sent about 3 mails a day tapatalk alot

Can I just ask what your mobile network settings are set to in terms of WCDMA only, GMS only or GSM/WCDMA preferred

I'd set mine to GSM only to try and improve battery life bt wondering if there is something weird wrong and this is killing it. Will try it on WCDMA only also now...

I don't want to speak too soon but I think my battery issues are resolved.

My Mini has now been switched on for 42 hours 47mins and has 60% battery life remaining :D

I'll repost when it finally dies but I'm hoping it's better now.

All I've done is update the device with a much newer firmware :D

daaaaaaaaaaamn! I hope the Pro gets a similar patch!

Have you still got loads of stuff disabled?

Also, what country are you in? I've heard of X10 Mini firmware updates before, but the online update service says there's no recent updates for the UK.

I'm in the UK but I always use customised firmwares from the Davinci Team (Google them) with all my Sony Ericsson phones. I literally flashed a newer firmware and it's now been 46hrs 26mins and I have 57% battery remaining. At this rate I could go over 100 hours in a single charge!!

My firmware is now 1.0.A.1.38 but like I said is a customised one with no network branding.

Also after doing an epic amount of research I have decided it's best to NOT use a task killer. Having read endless articles on the subject I have come to the conclusion that they are a waste of time but understand why some people choose to use them :o

mine is 1.1.A.0.8 genetic unbranded

Mine, (Norway) is also 1.0.A.1.38 and I got it from the software update via the pc companion software that came with the phone.
It was available the same day I got my phone so it's not something very new, most should be on that firmware I think by now if you've done a software update.

PLEASE!!! Remeber to backup your phone before doing this update!!!
(contacts, messages, other content/software/settings)

The custom built firmware based on this realse, as Devo1982 talks about might have other default settings or custom tweaks to it in adition to what SE have done in this update.

At the moment, my "uptime" is 3days, 2 hours and 8 minutes. (that's over 74 hours).
And the battery is at 36%.
The main reason for me beeing able to get this uptime on one charge is that I've disabled 3g data and only turn it on to download MMS messages after I've got a sms from the network letting me know there's MMS messages waiting for me.
One drawback - I think I need to restart the phone to let it fulle connect to 3g data again (a small bug there, might be my network and not the phone)

Other usefull numbers.
Phone idle, 49%
Cell standby, 29%
Display, 21%

Do you use the data widget to diable data ????

Then i do it i still can get mms auto and don't need to manual download mms

Mine is an unlocked phone from carephonewarehouse. Build is 1.0.A.1.36 - although when I do a software update (which I assume connects to SE) it tells me I already have the latest version, so where is this 1.0.A.1.38 come from then?

I guess different countries has different versions of the firmware.
Most likely based on what radio firmware is needed.

Making calls absolutely destroys the battery life on my x10 mini. Has anyone else noticed this?

I just spent approximately 15-20mins on a call and my battery went from 43% to 14%

My last call lasted for about 5 minutes.
I had 99% battery capacity, played a game for a few minutes and picked up the call - and after haning up the battery was at 98%.

I think the quality of the network you're on has a lot to say.

New record.
11% left on the battery and it just turned 5 days since last (full) charge.
Phone idle is at 55%.
The number one reason for this "uptime" is that 3g data is off (only activate it to recieve mms)

Well my Mini totally failed me in the battery department this weekend!

I charged it up to 100% and left the house at 12:40 I spent the day out taking a few photos, sending a few emails, surfing the web and a few phone calls. Not what I would call heavy useage at all.

On my way home I needed the sat nav and this was the only way I could find the hotel and guess what........the battery died!

What's worse is my mate with a HTC Wildfire still had charge the next day.

Love the phone but if it can't last me a day out what use is it?
