Help New to Android - poor battery life though

I can have good battery life and watching a movie, playing a game (screen on max brightness as it's been very sunny lately outdoors) or just using it for non-Internet/data tasks will all kill the battery very quickly.

Juice Defender can keep the phone going ages in standby, which is great, but clearly the phone saps loads of power being used. I hope new firmware can fix this. At the moment, the meter gives you the impression you'll be fine on 60-70% and then within no time at all it's low battery (although, maybe it goes to the warnings a little too quick - as I'm yet to actually kill it completely. But would you go out with it flashing red?)

And to clarify for those who don't yet own a mini or mini pro, ONLY THE MINI PRO has a removable battery. The X10 mini has it integrated and can't be changed (easily at least) by the end-user. The pro has a normal battery like many other SE handsets - BST38 (930mAh).

3g data active (and probably wifi and gps as well) will drain the battery a lot.
Normal talking/texting should be fine.

One can argue that a "smart phone" should have much better battery capasity so that it can be used with 3g data "on" all the time - but we know that different carriers and local conditions will demand more battery usage to keep the 3g connection alive, thus draining more battery.

We can only hope that the Android update will give us more uptime on the battery.

Until then my advice is to turn 3g data OFF while you don't need it.

Android devices usually have a very weak battery life etc - i used to own a Samsung Galaxy a couple of months back and it was far worse then the mini - just got a mini very recently - so far it seems to be doing well - updated it to the latest firmware - yea the 3G / WIFI and other such stuff usually drain out all the power if they are left turned on all the times - i mean usually its a personal preference but i use this task killer called "Auto task killer" which kills all the active tasks as soon as the screen times out - helps in preserving the battery quiet a bit - but so far from what i've seen on these forums here it seems this juice defender program is good 2 - going 2 give that a try -
