New to forum and Nexus 7 and Android

Need help. Using Gmail on Nexus 7. It mentions I can place messages (conversations?) in an established label or one that I create. That seems to be my problem, I cannot figure out how to create a label. Anyone out there have an idea on how I can create some labels?

First of all, welcome to Android Forums!

When in the Gmail app, on the left side it should say folders. There should be a plus symbol right below or on top of that. See if it has that and let me know. I do not have a nexus but I think the gmail app is similar on all phones.
