Help New to forum with a predictable question!!!

Hi All

I have recently acquired a HTC Desire HD and need some help. I have real issues with my battery life. I knew the standard 1230AMH wouldn't be enough so purchased an 1800AMH. It's not much better.

I have read all the battery saving advice i think there is, and have tried the following:
Removed large widget with time and weather
Turned brightness right down to lowest
Uninstalled Apps i don't use such as 3g watchdog
Installed Juice Defender and set to customize (and set it accordingly)
Unticked wifi
Standby is down to 15 secs
And a few other things.
However I've been working 2pm-10pm this week. Upon leaving my house to go to work my phone's battery is at 100%. An hour later after driving on a motorway my battery is at 84%. I then work 8 hours with 3x10 mins breaks (on each break a phonecall and a little bit of facebook checking), and by the time i leave work i have 22%, drive home for an hour and down to 7%.

This is utterly ridiculous, my phone with naff all usage is nearly dead after 10 hours. I have gone to About Phone-->Battery -->Battery use. Here are the figures i get:
Display 86% (even after getting rid of large widget and turning brightness down, standby on at 15 seconds and i DO NOT use a live wallpaper, wouldn't dare to!)
Everything else is no more than 2%

I know the phone is HD but what else can be done to reduce display usage? I must admit i'm far from happy with brightness down to lowest and standby at 15 seconds, i shouldn't have to put up with doing this to preserve battery life, hell it doesn't even preserve battery life!!!!

Check this out, this morning my phone was at 100% battery, this is all i did. Facebook for 38 seconds, e-mail for 1m 03 secs............my battery was down to 94%.

What is wrong with my phone? Surely this can not be like this for the next two years?

I am at my wits end.

Many thanks

Scott

I found when I installed Juice Defender, my battery life went down the toilet, I uninstalled and I was getting acceptable times.

Is USB Debugging turned on? That can help solve battery issues.

Incidentally, my experience of the "higher" capacity batteries is they're no better (sometimes worse) than the stock battery that comes with the phone.

USB debugging is switched off. I was recommended Juice defender by a friend so will uninstall as i don't really see its benefit, been using it for 48 hours and it has had no impact.

Thanks for responding El Presidente.

No worries, happy to assist.

Turn on USB Debugging, see if that makes a difference. I know it's helped others and may give your handset a little performance increase too.

I bought my DHD about 2 weeks ago. I was really woried about the battery. It was going from 100% to 0% in about 6-7 hours.
After I read lots of posts regarding battery problems, I disabled the auto sync on stocks, news, weather, set the power saver, set the display brightness to automatic.
My wifi/3g connections are always on. My battery goes now to 14 - 18 hours deppending on how much i play and surf.
I hope that your battery life will improve aswell.

From the homescreen, Menu >> Settings >> Applications >> Development >> USB Debugging (Or there abouts - I'm not using stock firmware).

And how do you turn off the large Homescreen widget? Or at least shrink it?

You can get rid of a widget by holding your finger on it until the rest of the screen dims and dragging to the bottom of the screen where it says remove.

That's done it thanks. Is there a smaller version somewhere? I quite liked the widget but not that it took up half the screen

Yeah, Long press the homescreen, select Widget -> Browse all HTC Widgets, then there's a smaller version amongst the 70 or so up there.

There are also alternatives on the market.

Hi all,

Scott, what you need to do is install a task killer, the best one i've found is, Advanced Task Killer Free just download this from the market and then set it to auto kill either, every 4 hours, every 2 hours, every one hour, every half hour, when screen off. I found this to improve my battery life significantly, but when you have a DHD, you need to charge it whenever you can.

Hope this helps :)
