Root new to rooting, help

I just gladly gave my iphone to my girlfriend after purchasing a new stock inspire 4g on 2.2.1. I love the phone its so much better but I have a few questions..

1. How do I root this phone? I know its nothing like jailbreaking ..
2. How do iget rid of at&t s default apps and the awful boot animation
3. I know this phone is capable of being much faster.. how do I accomplish this?
4. How do ROMs and formatting new SD cards work ad far as backing up data?

Download the simple hack kit from xda, and roming is quite easy, it gives you multiple ways of getting new android builds on your phone, as far as the boot animation download boot animation utility and run it when your rooted, another good app is rom manager(please donate by buying the full edition). Rooting will make the phone run faster if you overclock it using setCPU. You will use the app titanium backup to back up all app data and apps, and google will backup contacts, and email. if you need anymore help just post back =)
