New to the Dinc 2

So I just bought 2 Incredible 2s today. It was not a fun process over the last week. But the guy in the store hooked me like rock fish running in the bay. I got a heck of a deal when the customer service rep on the phone told me there was nothing that could be done.

Okay, first things first. I spent an hour on the phone with tech support today because I could not get my phone to activate. The antenna is built into the battery cover. That helps to have service. My own fault, go fig...

Here is my real question. Does the stock text messenger bleed the battery? My first droid was the Eris. Everyone said to disable the text messenger app and get handcent or chomp. So I did and it helped. Is that the same deal for these phones?

And a second question, that I just thought of, any way to remove the vcast apps without root?

FWIW, although I use Handcent, I never disabled the stock messenger. My battery life is still wonderful :)

1) no problems here with stock messenger

2) There is no way to remove the vcast or other preinstalled apps without root, however if you got the update on your phone to 2.3.4 already you cant root. You can check by settings/about phone/software version

Greetings,

Unfortunately, there is no way to remove VZ bloatware without root. As bioforce pointed out, if you have this version of Gingerbread, there is no way to root it at the moment, aside from the XTC clip option ( don't know much about this, you'll have to google that.)

The stock messenger doesn't affect the battery life. Just make sure that if you use another messenger app, you go into the stock messenger and disable the notifications in it, or you'll get double notices.

Enjoy, it's a good phone.

I don't use any of the V Cast apps and just ignore them. I use the Folder Organizer app by Fabio Collini to organize my apps into favorites and other categories (Labels) and exclude the bloatware. It's a great phone after you get it set up the way you like it, and battery life is excellent. Enjoy.

Go sms is a great looking and functioning app for texting way better than handcent
It has a great feature called blacklist that let's you hide people from text
That works great for me and the girlies

Handcent was so good, it made me text a lot, causing me to go over my messaging package, I had to uninstall it.
Love the Pop up through lockscreen.
