New to the root...

hey guys im new to this whole awesome scene of complete control of my device i had a my touch 3g for a while but it sucked and froze often, so i bought a My touch 4g from a guy but its rooted i think and its giving me problems for one theres no update option on it and its like two versions behind... so i tried doing a manual update but my phone froze for like four days till someone told me to do a factory reset on it so it worked for a day bot now i cant use my data any help with that?

but anyway i like connectivity which is why im not an apple fan and i love that we can do so many thing that we just couldnt do before to gain control of our devices i learn fast so if you give me the answer im sure ill get the hang of all this quickly

Hello and welcome to AF. To help answer your question, it sounds like you bought the device loaded with a custom rom. I recommend that you check out this forum for instructions on how to return it to stock.

If you do have a rooted device as you stated, most any rom won't give an option to take an OTA (over the air) update as it causes you to lose root (maybe even damaging the device depending what device you have)

An easy fix for this, if you know how to flash roms, you could go into the all things Root section of your device, locate an up to date rom.
