Seltzer's "screen off" is needed if you want to just touch the screen (an icon) to have it lock (there are three "screen off" apps by separate devs.. Seltzer's is the quickest).
You can configure it to wake up to the lock screen by any soft key or the power key (I hate using the power key for that and have the back/arrow soft key wake it up).
