I have experience flashing roms on my Prevail-and its a breeze especially if i brick it i can Odin back the orig rom :-) is there that option with this phone? I noticed some odd way of installing CWM on the triumph--is there no Odin way of doing it...? im sorry if any of this has been answered previously ... just this phone seems a little more intense.

Also i will be flashing MIUI-now i notised some things like goveners etc...undervolting overclocking...are these features you have to access a special way or are they settings on phone? the Galaxy Prevail is 800Mhz and no overclocking can be done so i have yet to try this stuff out.

Odin is specific to some Samsung phones but there are a few methods to unbrick floating around the forum the best method IMO is to flash b_randon's bone stock rom as it puts the triumph to an out of box state

Try checking this guide out:

You can easily flash back to the stock ROM. You can also easily replace the image folder if you really mess something up and that will get you back as well. It's not as scary as it might seem. This phone is very difficult to mess up beyond what we can help you fix. (I haven't seen anyone do it yet!)

To do any overclocking/undervolting you need to flash one of the kernels made for the ROM you are using. There are apps to help control it, but I know in CM7 you can do it from the CM7 menu.

the cool thing about the Triumph that I havent seen on another phone (yet) is that you can boot directly into download mode and connect to a PC, and directly edit the contents of the phone, like the recovery image and other bits, totally bypassing any need for Root access or any other mod.

you just replace the stock recovery with the CWM recovery, and boot into recovery and make a nandroid of the stock ROM. all without rooting.

easiest method ever, and super quick to restore the phone to a bone stock state that cant be distinguished from a new phone

inside clockworkmod recovery, you can make whats known as a "nandroid" backup. which basically copies the ROM exactly as its installed on the phone, to the SD card, so you can restore it at a later date as if it was never off the phone.

the CWM menu is fairly self explanatory.

the thing you need to know, is that before you flash any rom, you wipe System, Cache, and then go in "advanced" and wipe "dalvik cache"

then to flash you go to "choose zip from SD card" and navigate to it, and flash.

CM7 requires you to flash a second file called gapps.zip, you do this before rebooting, flash it immediately after the rom itself.

MIUI on triumph does not need that file, it has the market in it already.

also, if you ever need to restore a nandroid from inside the recovery, make sure the backup is in the original folder the recovery put it in when it was created, and that its not re-named.

You also dont need to do any wipes to restore a nandroid, only to flash a fresh rom.

hope some of this helps get the basics out of the way, theres some great How Tos here, and this site is the source of the best roms for the MT.

Wow thank you for all your information, i feel less stressed about it, i was going to go with CM7 but if im not mistaken somewhere in there says you have to re-activate your phone?

And MIUI is not really not as well maintained or something.. lol

Is there a A2SD for Triumph?

You don't have to reactivate your phone when switching. You have to activate on stock and cannot within CM7 or MIUI. Both have had the final build released for this phone. So neither really has any maintaining beyond the normal troubleshooting and whatnot.

You can use Apps2SD the Triumph. It has a large amount of internal memory so it isn't really needed.

No, your phone stays activated when switching roms, as long as you activated it on the stock rom.

the issue is that you cannot activate it on cm7 or miui becuase the activate app doesnt work on 2.3, but since you are supposed to activate the phone in the stock rom BEFORE you flash a rom, theres no problem.

also, all of these roms are just ports by some very talented people who put a lot of work in to release these for free.

we are VERY lucky that these roms exist and have so many things working correctly, not every phones gets supported by the community this well.

the developers have completely stopped updating CM7 and MIUI, but the last roms they left us are VERY good, and definately good enough to use daily.

lastly, you do not need A2SD, the Triumph has a gigabyte of storage for apps and its very unlikely you'll ever fill it up with apps alone, plus, the internal storage is faster and more reliable to run apps from than the SD card. you should always install to internal storage if possible, and on the Triumph, its very possible
