Root New update and root?

I know there's another post on this but didn't want to bog it down with my questions that are related but not. I just got the prompt to install the latest update (4.5.621) and chose to do it later. I'm not sure what to do because I want to root this phone but have been putting it off (late to the DX game, only got it about 6 mos ago). I'm wondering what you pros suggest: root first then update, or update then root? Or can I root after I update? Also, I've only rooted one other phone (LG Ally) so I'm not a pro therefore I'm looking for the easiest but stable method of rooting so if you can point me to that it would also be helpful (could I be lucky enough that there's a one-click?). Thanks!

you cannot root the update as of right now.

my personal opinion, root your device now
download Titanium Backup from the market
and freeze blurupdater.apk

that will stop the update from prompting you, and you can begin to install some roms for your dx.

if you take the ota you cannot revert back to .602/.605 and there are currently no roms for it, and there is no official way to root the device.

and as of right now the only way to root the .621 ota is to download rootkeeper from the market.

but i highly suggest you freeze the updater if you want to experience some DX goodness

So just to test my understanding if I want root and .621 I root dirt then use rootkeeper (simple version, typing with thumbs).

If I want root and ROMs do not update to .621.

Thanks again for helping out a noon. :)

The way I understand it is... if you want to root, then completley ignore the .621 update. Once you take it you are done. If you dont want to root, then take it... i jumped the gun early, and now stuck in .621 but making the best of it. it did address alot of issues, but the feeling of being stuck on one rom sucks..

The issues are fixed, but now I have no wireless tethering... :(

Thats the only thing that probably spurred them to do the update.. so to save face they "fix" a few things... but yeah.. they clamped down on that.. which is really kinda dumb. I have an old unlimited internet plan through verizon so why should it matter? Now, if you are on a 5 gig plan or something, you would think they would not mind and hope you go over so you would pay more anyway.. they just want to charge 20 more dollars for tethering, which should be a free option hands down.
