Root New USB Cord

Should I really get a new USB cord before I try rooting? I really want to try, but I have no other cord. I've seen a few times people referring to getting a new cord before trying, but is it really necessary? Thanks!

I agree. I picked up one on Ebay for under $2 shipped from the US that was nice and thick, works really well. Just do a search for "micro USB" and you'll come up with some good "blackberry cables" that are the same thing but cheaper than you will find if you search by epic 4g or something similar.

Then, there are those that insist you MUST use the stock cable for anything but charging.

Imp, get a new cable if you need to. I've had no issues with mine but if YOU run into problems, trying a new cable wouldn't hurt.

This is what I was thinking...I actually did root (using the Odin method) with the stock cable with no problems. I couldn't wait to get a new cord, so I just went for it and it paid off! Now I'm just trying all of the ROMs, but they all seem the same for the most part from my noob point of view. Any suggestions? I like a lot of the themes too and I've noticed my battery not doing so well for some reason too...
