Help New User Has Questions About System Updates

ChipDroid

Newbie
Hello,

Here is another question from a new user. Many thanks in advance for your help. I checked on my system and it says my new phone is running:

5.5.886 ... production original - released 2011.09.08
5.5.886.XT875.Verizon.US - System version
DROID BIONIC - Model number
2.3.4 - Android version

In another thread I found a list of official releases - it looks like I am at least two generations behind. My phone wants to update to 5.5.893, not the latest release of 5.9.902. I also read about releases numbered 5.6 and 5.7. I want to be sure I do not mess up my new phone.

1. Is going to Settings, About Phone, System Updates the correct way to update my system?

2. When updating a Droid phone do you need to upgrade one step at a time?

3. Could the fact that I am running 5.5.886 have a negative impact on my phone's performance? I could not find a list of changes between 5.5.886 and 5.5.893.

Thanks so much!

1. Yes.

2. Yes because the ota looks for certain files and apps on your phone and if you don't have them it will fail. When you update to 5.5.893 check for updates again and 5.9.902 should be available.

3. In my opinion yes, both updates have improved radio's and battery life. I would definitely take the updates all the way to 5.9.902.

You and I responded in parallel to him. He went ahead based on your response. My response was redundant.

Hi Thom,

Sorry I did not see your earlier reply. I must have signed off before it came in. I did update to the latest version.
