Root New user questions

Hey there - I'm a pretty new user to any android device but am a technical person and had a couple of questions. I have a friend who is pretty familiar with android devices and has helped me some. These questions may need to be divided up, but here goes:

I am using an incredible 2 purely as a wireless device. It replaced my crappy ipod touch. I am running CyanogenMod 7.1.01-Inc2. First off - The wireless on the device seems to "go to sleep" after awhile. Is this normal behavior? I am not sure if I am getting notifications and such during those times. When I start using the device, the wireless indicator goes white then green, then i suddenly start getting update notifications and such. Would prefer it stay on all the time.

Second - my wife and I both have an Incredible 2 - she has some weird issues though compared to me with video. Everything works fine, but when she connects to skype, for instance, her video is sideways and won't seem to rotate. When she connects to google talk video, sound doesn't seem to work right. Outside of these applications, she has no problem with sound or video. I was wondering if someone could suggest why 2 identical devices would run into this.

Look forward to hopefully learning some things on here and look forward to suggestions!

I hope it is ok to put this here - I know my questions aren't rooting related but my devices are rooted, so that is why I thought to put it here.

I can't follow this. Cell phones are usually wireless. Try to boil one of your questions down to one sentence with a subject that describes the problem.

Okay - first question - is there something that would cause the wireless to die off after a period of no use? Seems to happen with me and I have to go back and have some activity before it comes back on.
