Help new user

Hello there I am a new Android user and obviously new to the forum. I hage a Samsung Transform and so far love everything about it except the massive battery drain. It is my only issue. Is there a fix or somthing that I am doing wrong? Also, I cant seem to find a way to shut off apps that keep popping up even though I'm not using them. Again, am I doing somthing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you might have.

Welcome to Android Forums! Smartphones don't have good battery life, but I'll move this to the transform forum so folks there can pitch in to help you! :)

You can turn down your display brightness, minimize time for your screen and keyboard timeout settings, and the biggest help I find is Settings --> Accounts & Sync --> uncheck Background data. That really helps prolong battery life (although as a smartphone, as mentioned above, they don't have great battery lives to begin with). Anytime you go to the Market to download an app, you will be prompted to enabled Background Data. When you are done with the Market, you can go back into the Settings menu and uncheck Background data again.

Use plane mode when in a meeting or a class, especially where you don't have signal too. I use only 50% of my battery in a 15 hour day.

Wifi also uses a lot of battery. I'm running an undervolted kernel, which is great for me because I use my phone all the time. 8 and 1/2 hours of running and a lot of use, and I normally still have 30-40% (but as low as 15% or as high as 60%). Greatest reason to root, in my opinion. If you're thinking of rooting, check my guide out.

I've had nothing but good feedback from it.

But of course! Very good guide for new users, me and Cooper have various guides for everyone's needs here, and we continue to make them as well. :)
