Got one of these yesterday for my daughter as a replacement for the HTC Desire she has been using for the last year.
Haven't seen her since setting it up.
She absolutely loves it.
And i am now the best dad in the world :D

got it to replace my old running down galaxy s2.its faster i'll give it that and the screen resolution is better(if you look at it straight on) but it's plenty heavier, and the battery is pretty poor for the size.there is stamina mode which supposedly increases battery life by turning things off when the screen is not on like wifi and mobile data.trouble is whats the point of a smartphone it only updates stuff when you tell it too.there is also a problem with the wifi connection being poor.next to my nexus 7 and old galaxy s2 the wifi is great for those but the sp is poor and often drops out cos it says the signal is bad when everything else says its good
overall i'm happy with it but think it won't be long till i get something else

Got one myself to keep my Xperia Z company, ahem. Pleased with it to date, it is quite hefty compared to the Z. Unlike the above poster I have found the battery to be good, I like the way that stamina mode lets you leave on a data connection. My concern is with the camera, using the on screen capture can make photos blurry when it tries to focus on something close up.....using the physical camera button improves this for some reason resulting in better shots.
It's actually a very nice phone, feels solid, nice design, very good phone call quality.

Can I ask what user memory you have with the SP? My wife currently has the Xperia Arc, loves the phone. But put a hand full off apps on it and you get a "low memory storage" message.

I have a HTC One X and have 2gig of what I call app memory. So how does the SP compare

It has 1gig of RAM and about 5.5gb of free space for installing apps and stuff but also has an SD slot for expansion. No memory issues at all so far.

yes has sd slot for memory card but i've yet to find one app that lets me move it to card.i'm sure sony have disabled this?

Its not so much that it is disabled. The problem is whilst with the Arc there are only two memory sources (phone+SD) the newer handsets have 3 (phone+external+SD) and Android will only allow for the management of application between the two. Though with this in mind most of the current handsets have this in mind and have a considerable amount of space dedicated to installing apps on the external memory.

It's not Sony who have disabled the feature, I think it is part of Android 4.1 and up

I'm afraid I'd have to disagree there, although before getting any phones with 4.1 upwards, I also thought that apps not being installable to SD was an Android issue. However as I have two non-rooted Samsungs, each running 4.1.2 and they both allow for installing apps onto the SD card, it does indeed point to something that some makers, Sony included have done to their phones, presumably because they think they have supplied enough memory on board.

EDIT: On reflection, this may well be an Android limitation when combined with certain configurations of phones. It seems that phones with only a two-part onboard memory CAN install apps to the SD card, whereas those with what it effectively a three-part on-board memory look to Android as if they already have an SD card and this is where the apps get installed to. For example, my Xperia SP shows up as having system memory, external memory AND "sdcard0". - and that's BEFORE I add and SD card

Thank you for the clarification billynibbles, however can you please confirm if the handset in question has a seperate partition of flash memory as well as phone memory and an SD card?

I'm never sure whether we all use the same terminology, but as I understand it, the phone has what appear to be three sections of internal memory, even before adding an actual SD card. One I assume to be the system RAM, and then when viewed through a file manager app, you can see a subdirectory labelled 'ext_card' and another 'sdcard0'

It's only when you insert a real sd card that 'sdcard1' appears.

Hope that helps.

can anyone post some pics from this phone my friend is interested but is in two minds

she hasnt owned a sony before

thanks
