Help New voicemail notification... but i don't have a new voicemail

In my notification bar at the top of my screen it says i have 1 voicemail. This notification also pops up when i turn my phone back on from being locked. However, when I check my voicemail, I do not have a new message or any saved messages either. Whats going on and how do I get rid of it?

Do you have any voicemails at all (ones that are not "saved" or "new" but are stuck in voicemail limbo)? Delete them all and then see if that helps. I had this happen to me but when I erased the voicemail, the notification went away.
 
Thanks for the response... I have gone through my voicemail. Usually it tells me if I have a saved message and its not saying I have any messages. I will check again...

There is a setting under settings>call settings>clear voicemail notification. Mine is greyed out, but I'm guessing it might clear out the notification on your phone.
 
So I had the same issue, vm notification with no vm. I clicked the "Clear Voicemail Notification" button in Settings and ever since I get no visual notifications of vm's? I get notifications that I have missed calls, but nothing indicating I have received a message.

Any ideas?

are you sure you have a vm? as in someone just didnt hang up? if so have you reset the phone? turn off and back on
 
Hi CaddyMan, thanks for the response. Yes, I definitely have new voicemails, have spent 2 hours on the phone this evening with Verizon and they were less than useless (don't mean to sound so jerky, just very frustrated at this point). At the point where the only thing they are suggesting I do is do a complete reset of the device which will really suck with all my text, contact, app, etc history.

I can't really understand how something as simple as a voicemail notification can be so difficult to troubleshoot and fix. Also interesting that this does not seem to be an issue (yet?) for others?

Thanks again for your reply, I may start a new thread to see if anyone else out here in Forum land has any ideas...
 
try dialing *228 and pressing option 2, then do a restart, then test again....idk might work, anything is better then do a full reset when you have the phone the way you want it.

also do you have any apps that have to do with vm, notifications, calls, etc?
 
The Verizon folks had me do a *228 option 1 and 2, battery pull and everything. The Tech I spoke with even said he went into my profile, disabled the option for a notification to be sent to the device then reset it and it still was not working.

I don't know if I have any apps that would have anything to do with vm, do you have any examples of apps that might affect it?

Yup, I now have the same problem :( Just spent an hour on the phone with a Verizon tech. Was as nice as can be, but couldn't fix the problem. We did a hard reset, which wasnt a big deal because I've only had the phone for a few days. However, the notification still doesnt show up... grr.

Let me know if downloading a free visual voicemail works...

I will be calling HTC tomorrow and if I find anything else out, I will post it.
 
Hi lisa, I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this too. It is more or an annoyance than anything, you will have to check vm after each missed call to determine if you have a message or not and if you fly or power down your phone and miss a "missed call" notification, then too.

I started another thread specifically on this issue. May want to keep an eye there as well in the event someone comes up with a fix.
 
I came across this thread doing a google search I have the same problem on my new Moto Droid.. SOmeone please help its driving me crazy
 
Once in a while the phone system where I work goes all goofy, and the message lights on our phone won't go away, even though there are no messages. The cure for this is to go in and listen to you non-existent messages. Don't just call into voicemail, but actually press 1 to listen to messages. After you've done that, don't just hang up, but press 'star' to disconnect.
I realize it's a totally different system, but they may take the same cure.
 
I guess I'm late to the party, but I was having the same problem, and was directed here by google. In the end, after trying everything here, i ended up calling my own voicemail, and then sending my own number a message through voicemail. This 'updated' my voicemail notification at the top of my screen, and after hanging up and calling again, i was directed to the new message, which i promptly deleted. That fixed it, as i no longer have that pesky notification telling me i had 4 new voicemails. I hope this helps if anyone else gets directed here.
 
After reading everything and going through my call settings and following the instructions people have given, I don't think anyone has mentioned that it might be the network you are currently on.

While at school, the wifi on my phone automatically logs on and I can't delete the voice mail notification. However, once I turn turn OFF the wifi, the voice mail notification goes through it's process of letting me see what voice mail there is, if there ever was one to begin with.

So, try turning off your wifi and using the 3G/4G service that came with your phone.

I am a new member with this voice mail issue. My phone is a Casio G'zOne commando. I have tried all of the solutions here and the icon remains. I took the phone to the Verizon store and they were of no help. I do not have the "clear voicemail notification" under settings.

Any further ideas?

I was having same problem as afinepoint and nothing would work. Called Verizon and they reset my voicemail account. After powering down phone, removing battery and sim card I powered up, notification still there, called voicemail, let myself a message, * out of voicemail to disconnect, called back in and deleted this new voicemail and VOILA! Notification finally disappeared. Good Luck

I found that if i just restart up my phone (samsung galaxy s5) the notification went away
