New VZW Customers - Check Your 1st Bill

Not sure if this has been posted already, but I was charged activation on my phone, which I pre-ordered online. I shoot them over a quick e-mail, and already got a call back saying that they were going to credit my account.

Just make sure to check!

Yup I had to point that out to them also.

Wait, what? What is an activation charge? How much is it?

If you are a new Verizon customer (ex. you had att or sprint before) then you have to pay a $35 activation fee when getting a new phone. If you are an existing customer then you don't have to pay. I don't know how it works if you get it offline though.

This is the standard. If you were offered free activation you will get it.

It can take 2 billing cycles to be removed/credited for some strange reason.

I'm an existing customer and they hit me with an activation charge. It was weird. It showed a charge, a refund for it, and then another charge. The rep was saying there tend to be mistaken activation charges, but not that.

It was credited ASAP for me according to my account balance on My Verizon.

Same thing happened with me.....had to call to get it taken off. Seems a bit shady to me that they offer free activation, then charge you for it anyway, knowing that a ton of people will not call in to get it removed, and will just pay their bill without questions. Hmmm....come on Verizon.....

I see. Thanks. I am an existing customer though so hopefully there's no trouble.
