Help New Wildfire

Mossey

Newbie
I get my new Phone on Tuesday and was wondering if there's a preferred order for making modifications. I have read a lot of posts and have planned to first off, establish battery life(forum Tip), then unlock from provider, next I plan to root, using the guide provided here, then finally flashing a new Rom. Please correct the sequence if there is a better way of appoaching this. I would like to get it right from the start.
Thanks to all of you that have been so helpful supporting this forum!

Marvelc roots without XTC clip. Google is your friend. ;)

I know it does, that's how I did mine. But u still have to create a gold card and s-off before rooting. U can't root and install a custom Rom without getting s-off first as I understand it.
I haven't tried the unlock from htcdev site. I guess u have to install a ruu if u go that route?

I'm not sure if Marvelc roots via the unlocked bootloader route. But unlocking the bootloader is much more complicated than creating a Goldcard, and it requires filling out a disclaimer at htcdev.com waiving your warranty rights. So if I had Marvelc, I'd definitely stick with creating a Goldcard!!!

So the process the OP needs to follow (expanding on djthebogan's) is:

1. S-OFF (Marvelc) or unlock bootloader through htcdev.com (Marvel).

2. Root. I suggest using the HTC Supertool v3 to make it really easy. See part 3 of my rooting guide for A510e for instructions. The Supertool will work with any WFS, so don't worry if you have something beside an A510e.

3. Install Clockworkmod Recovery for WFS (5.0.2.6 is latest version). Use eoghan2t7's installer over at XDA to make the install painless.

4. Backup the stock HTC ROM in cwm5 recovery!! If for whatever reason you don't like the custom ROM or it doesn't work right, and you need to go back to HTC's, flashing back to a stock ROM can cause massive headaches. Restoring from a backup is MUCH easier.

5. Install custom ROMs. My current fav is CM7, but to each his own. :D

Also install the Superuser app by ChainsDD at Android Market to grant and manage Superuser rights for your phone unless you like being constantly bothered by permission requests from your apps that require root.

I'd love to see if anyone has anything to add.

My new Wildfire S arrived today from the US, it's White bought at RS and for VM(CMDA). After it`s unlocked, am I able to put in a Digicell Sim(GSM) and use it here in Belize?

No, gsm and cdma phones are completely different. Cdma phones use a different network and do not have sim cards. If u want a gsm prepaid wildfire u would have to go through tmobile or ATT or buy an unlocked one.

djthebogan, you probably know much, much more than I , when it comes to cell phones, but all the research I have done, have proven the HTC Wildfire S to be a dual network phone, Wcmda and GSM on 6 Freq. and does have a Sim slot. What I don't know is if the O/S(Rom) will prevent it from switching to unlike networks. I already have my Virgin Sim, and a Digicell Sim and can't test either until the phone is unlocked. I sure hope you're wrong!

U have the virgin mobile USA from radio shack? The USA vm network does not use sim cards nor do their phones have a sim card slot. But I believe that virgin mobile in other countries runs off the gsm network and has sim cards and slots on their phone.
