Root Newbe rooting questions

Hello all,
Been reading up on rooting my rezound with the ota update and have a few questions

1. do you lose all your programs and updates when you root

2. also is it different process to root a phone that has the ota update than one that doesnt.

3. what rom do you use after rooting

I'm a newb too but can help a little. You have to unlock your bootloader before you can root. That will wipe your phone. Flash amon ra and install superuser and you're rooted. That process wont wipe your phone so you can unlock and then start rebuilding your home screens if you wish.

I didn't install a custom rom. My goal for now was to remove bloat.

unfortunately yes. its actually not the rooting process that will wipe your personal data,its the unlocking process,wich does a factory reset when you unlock. this is a safety feature to protect you.

2. also is it different process to root a phone that has the ota update than one that doesnt.

nope. not with htcdev. you will always be able to root,no matter what updates have been issued.

3. what rom do you use after rooting

thats a personal choice that no one can answer for you. i use ICS roms,but im ok with some missing funtionality and lack of polish. your best bet is to read posts about roms,go to the developer threads,read thru the feature and known buglist,look at screenies and pick one to try. if you dont like it try another

you dont have to flash a rom at all. you can run rooted stock if you want to.(in this case,do not permanently install your recovery)
