Help newbie a bit confused about installing apps on SD card

Gents, i do not see much activity here but ill ask. I am a brand new 16gb HP Touchpad owner. It came with android 4.3.1 installed and it looks like the smaller partition is around 1.4 or 1.5 gb in size (not sure how to tell exactly) so it's not terribly small but I'm confused about moving apps to the SD card or installing apps to the SD card.

I'm perfectly willing to read guides and learn on my own so if i can be pointed to the rightsnplaces ill dive in. Android clearly has a move app to SD card function but should i not do this at all?

Should i only do this with certain apps?

Am i right that i can actually install apps direct to the SD card but if so, how? I do see i should not install from the official Playlist page or whatever it is called.

Very sorry about the newbie questions but this is my first tablet and first device with android and whoa nilly am i a bit overwhelmed.

Hi,
There are only certain apps that can be installed on the SD card. However, all of those apps even after installation can be moved to the SD card. Just go to app settings in your settings menu (or manage apps), tap the app name and click on the move to SD card button that appears. As for enabling it by default, you can just follow this guide:

How to Install Android Apps to the SD Card by Default & Move Almost Any App to the SD Card

However, if you want to have more "internal" space for those pesky apps that just won't move to the SD card then I suggest you think about rooting your device and using Link2SD.

... or just resize your data and sdcard partitions to the size you like and you won't have any of the problems associated with moving apps to the sdcard. (and there are serious bugs associated with that.) :D

I know this will be overwhelming b/c of information overload, but have a look here: [ROM GUIDE] How to install Android on the HP TouchPad "The Easy Way" - xda-developers

One of the links on that page (under partition size problems...) is this: How to guide for changing your system, data, and cache partition sizes to whatever you want. - HP Touchpad - RootzWiki
