Newbie looking for help

I'm not sure if theres a thread on this already. Every time I try to search, the site keeps taking me back to the login screen and I'm in a loop.

I'm trying to get my phone to function as a hot spot. I tried downloading several apps and none are working. So then I rooted the phone using the framaroot from this forum but the apps still aren't working. I'm sure there is something else I need to be doing, but I'm at a loss as to what that is.
Maybe I dont have the right app?
Or theres some kind of setting that needs to be changed?
I just have no clue.
Anyone have any wisdom?

Define "not working". The app doesn't load? The app loads, but you can't set it up or turn it on? The app appears o work but you can't connect to it with another device? You can connect to it but you can't get on the internet with the other device?

The apps download to the phone fine. But when I attempt to turn the hotspot on, it won't activate. Depending on what the app is, it will either turn off my wifi on the phone, just not do anything at all, or tell me that it should be working, but that there was an error and nothing appears on my computer.

Get WiFi Tether (for root users) by TrevEmod and follow setting recommendations in a thread some where here...

I tried that. When I "push to start tethering" it pops up and tells me tethering started with errors. Check show log. Thej when I go to the log in superuser, all it says is allowed

Make sure WiFi is off & reboot. Also, make sure u are using a WiFi enabled kernel. Dtm kernel and stock kernel works good.

I had the same issue. It kept saying it had errors. Then I just tried to connect w it anyway and....lo & behold it actually connected! Try connecting a device to it using the settings in bcrichster's link even if it says it has errors
