Hi All.
New here, and to android...always had the apple products before. I have the Note 2 16gig (not lte model) Fw is Jellybean 4.1.1

I'm having a problem with removing unwanted apps. There is an option to hold the app and drag up to the top right, and hoover and let go on the bin "Remove" picture. It's glows red to confirm correct locating, and I let go....BUT the app is not being removed at all. The only way I see that is working for me is through the application manager. The apps I'm trying to remove, are not the ones that can not be deleted, as I know there are some you can not remove. I've tried loads of apps, none get deleted/removed. Any ideas please?

Thanks. Paul from Uk.

If I have installed an app that I do not like I open the applications manager scroll to All select the app tap on it then select Uninstall

mrpaul, first off welcome to the site!

I am assuming you are having problems in general with getting rid of apps.

First off might i suggest to go into your Settings > Apps, and from there you are given the option to remove apps.

Otherwise, if this doesn't work/confuses you, you can go into the Google Play store > top right 3 Vertical Dots > Settings > Apps > You can click on the apps you want/dont want here and uninstall them

Otherwise some apps cannot be uninstalled because they were installed by your carrier and the only way to remove them is to unlock/root your device.

More info on rooting can be found here: http://androidforums.com/faqs/443432-what-root-being-rooted-mean.html

Hope this helps!

Hi. Thanks for welcome and suggestions.

The removal of apps does work through application manager, but do not work when drag to the top of the screen.

I have contacted Samsung, and they told me to do a full restore, which I did. But still does not work as it should. The apps are just simple downloaded ones, such as Sky News app and argos. They can be removed via app manager, but won't remove via drag and drop on the "remove bin".

Are you talking about deleting apps off of your home screen? With my S3 dragging the icons to the trash only removes it from my screen but the app is still on the phone until I go and delete it out under applications. Not sure if it works the same way with the Note 2.

As mentioned above, dragging items to the 'Remove Bin' while on the home-screen simply removes the app icon from the home-screen. It doesn't un-install the app.

Rather than navigating through Settings --> Apps, try this;

1: Load up your app drawer (Icon bottom-right on the home-screen, made up of 16 small squares).

2: Click the 'Menu' button on the bottom-left of the phone (the 'soft-key' next to the physical 'Home' button).

3: Click 'Un-install'.

4: Now select any apps you would like to un-install (This will not work for system apps, of course... once you click 'uninstall', any apps you can delete will have a little round icon over them to signify this).

Thanks R4nd0mJ0k3r for explaining another way of removing app, didn't know that way...thanks.

So just to clarify what I'm asking. When I have my own set up home screens, I can remove the apps from the home screens with the drag and drop to trash can, and I do realise this is not removing them from the phone.

The problem I have is "within the apps home screen" that shows all apps on the phone. From within this screen, when I drag and drop to the "Remove" bin, it is my understanding this should remove the app from the phone completely as a uninstall. This does not happen, plus the icon itself does not disappear either. This action seems to change nothing at all on the phone. Can someone with the note 2 check this and tell me if this is meant to/and does in fact remove the icon and that program from the handset.

Sorry for confusion, it's is hard to explain the problem. I know there are other options, even some options I didn't know..lol. But this drag and drop is the easiest and my preferred option...plus can not understand why it doesn't work.

Thanks

This is also possible, you're only missing one step.

While in the app draw, hit the menu button, and rather than selecting 'Uninstall', click 'Edit' (the screen should 'zoom out' slightly). Now, while in edit mode, holding down on, and dragging apps over the 'Uninstall' icon (now at the top right) will actually un-install the app.

The reason for needing to hit 'edit' first is this;

If you are actually adding app icons to your home-screen, once you have one held down, releasing your finger places the icon on the home-screen. If 'mid-hold' you decide that you don't actually want the app on your home-screen, you can simply drag it over 'remove' and it wont be placed. Hope I've explained this properly :p.

Thanks again R4nd0mJ0k3r, you are very clear and helpful.

I have click the edit on the soft menu button and yes this does uninstall the app. Just tried it and worked. Plus also understand what you are saying about dragging to home screen, then changing your mind so letting go on Remove bin. But won't the remove bin now be the one on the home screen, and not the app screen?
So simply going into app screen, and dragging an icon/app and dropping on remove bin is NOT an option that is performed on the note 2 without first clicking on the edit button??
Friend has a the one X android phone. He just opens his apps screen and drags his apps to the bin, and his uninstalls, without the need for edit.
If this is normal for the note 2 to press edit all well and good, as I want to check mine is not faulty at all. Just seems strange, that the "edit" must be operated first, since the phone allows the option to drag...you'd think you would just be presented with a "are you sure you want to remove" message.

I'm guessing you have the note 2 and this is how it works on yours too then?? Samsung seems to think the action I was doing should remove the app, when I spoke to them earlier. Since they never asked me to click upon the edit option under softkey menu key.

It's perfectly normal. It's the same on my Note 2 and was also the same on my Note 1 and Galaxy S before that. Simply a quirk of TouchWiz, Samsungs native launcher.

And in my experience, whenever you speak to 'customer services' for anything related to tech, they know basic information but are not trained particularly well and simply panic when you get too technical. The 'Wipe your phone' is a typical knee-jerk reaction for someone who doesn't actually know the solution to your problem and simply hopes that a Factory Reset will sort it all out.

This is why the last time I called my ISP, despite giving them a set of clear and concise instructions as to what I needed them to do at their end in order to fix my problem, I was asked simply, "Have you tried unplugging and re-plugging your router sir?".

Ok great. Thanks. That is good to know all is fine.Guess I was comparing to how my friend works his phone. Plus Samsung told me it should remove that way, told me too, to return the phone as faulty!

Right must go to bed now. Thank you for all your help :)

Great responses - thanks! One more related question if you don't mine me stealing the thread for a question:

I have set up Home Screens with related apps - and in doing so I created two blank home screens that I now want to delete. But, I can't figure out that step. Anyone here done that or seen the solution?

Good question I need to know that too

Pinch your fingers together on the home screen and it will zoom out and show all of the screens and you can add or delete from there.

After going back to do one more edit I found a trash can at the bottom of the screen. Surely that wasn't there earlier!! Yeah, right! At least I'll man up and admit I missed it! Enjoy folks!!
