Newbie Question on "People"

This seems like a simple question, but I can't figure out how to do it. Is there any way to sort the People contacts by last name instead of first name. The latter convention drives me nuts, and most programs give you the choice. Is there any way to do this in Android? I'm using an Eris running 1.5 with the latest update installed.

Can't think of anything in options...The issue is that the name is stored in a single field and not split first name, last name.

The only suggestion I have is to store the names "Doe John" instead of "John Doe".

Change it in your gmail account and then sync ... that would be faster than doing it on the phone
