Root Newbie Questions

Windows machines at work, I have my mac laptop with me. Didn't want to use work computers - I think they are starting to crack down on cyber security situations so plugging in a usb might flag somebody in IT - I had that problem at my previous employer.
Can't use phone well enough to load a tethering app to use my MAC so I guess I'm either trying work computers or borrowing my wife's craptastic Sony when I get home tomorrow.

might work, but you gotta keep in mind some people had issues making it work, there were some errors in coding or something, but its worth a try

it can't be as bad as "frankenputer". i had a bunch of parts laying on the floor of the den for a few weeks to SBF while I was being a ROM junkie. It had no case, a house cooling fan to cool it and I had the motherboard and hard drive sitting on a couple of books i had laying around. Wish I took a picture of it, it was spectacular!

Well looks like our IT department turned off access to our usb drives so I'm dead in the water until I get home tomorrow.
I'll retry flashing Maderstock as I'm on a .340 ROM and from there I'll try something different. Or just throw the thing away, LOL.

don't give up, even on te wife's Sony, the RSD lite will run (it doesn't need a lot of resources or power). The SBF method will get you where you wanna be to get restarted and from there, its all internal with the phone

oh, yeah, the screen not responding thing? or was that another thread I got mixed up with yours?

Yeah, screen issues. This is the 8th replacement X between the wife and me. Ugh. VZW is supposedly sending two new DInc's to replace them with since we haven't had any luck with these. I was contemplating keeping them if I could find a rom that worked for us.

hrm i thought you were getting 2 dx2's... maybe i missread something somewhere, well, if they are sending you 2 incredibles, i wouldnt worry about putting a rom on the dx, i would just go ahead and wait for the incredibles, and get the X back to stock. hopefully you will have much better luck with the incredibles than the X

I thought we were getting two DX2's as well but after calling VZW for a status update on our phones that were supposed to be shipped overnight that never arrived we found out we were slated for refurb units. After telling them I wanted two new units they said no problem, just resign our contracts. Hell no am I resigning ANY contract after the track record we've been having!
So what I'm thinking is loading a ROM onto the wife's phone and see if she likes it enough (i.e. corrects the issues she's having) to keep the DX over the new Incredible.
Either way thanks for all your input! I've learned a lot about these phones and how they work. ;)

with the incredible you will be able to customize it more, meaning do more than we can do on the DX, im not sure how the forum members are on the incredible side, but i do hope they are as nice as we all are.

How do you get into stock recovery mode again? I'm going back to stock froyo on the wife's phone because liberty doesn't support voice dialing, searching, etc.
Then going to try the leaked gb. :)

Thanks. LOL There's so much information out there in so many different threads it's hard to keep track of everything!
