newbie, should i root?

so im one of those people that just made the switch for iphones and att, to sprint with the evo. and i love it. but i keep reading about rooting the phone? can anyone tell me what the real benefits of rooting the phone are?? is it worth doing?


please please any information will help!!
 
I rooted because I wanted the free WiFi tethering, be able to flash custom roms and delete some of the pre installed apps.

the only reason im even considering it is because i had jailbroken my iphone. but it seems a bit complicated and im not sure what the pluses would be for such an android newbie like me. thanks for the advice so far, anything you have to offer helps
