next big thing from verizon?

Finally looking into getting a new phone on Verizon, been rocking the nexus since release day, but the phone is starting to feel a little long in the tooth, especially in the battery life department. I would love the HTC one but it doesn't seem like there's anything in the pipeline from verizon in regards to a new HTC device. I was considering the S4, but it just doesn't seem worth it in my opinion as far as an upgrade.

Mainly just looking for better battery life, improved GPS positioning (15+ minutes to lock on a signal most of the time gets tiresome), Ability to install AOSP based roms and kernels, and better speeds when handling multiple things at a time (running music, while playing games or using camera and such). Been running the latest roms and such but it just doesnt seem to be giving the improvements I'm looking for.

PS: Sticking with Verizon because I'm still grandfathered into unlimited 4g data. and only pay 80 for my phone and tablet unlimited 4g with tethering

Battery life on my Galaxy Note 2 is very nice. I've had no difficulty with GPS but don't really put it to the test. The multiple app thing works great.

You, my friend, are talking about the fabled Motorola X! A google device with Motorola hardware is truly appealling, no? No release date. Just rumors. (Shades of the Droid Incredible and Galaxy Nexus, right?.. only don't count on me to be the life of the party this time. :p)

I'm in the same boat, my Galaxy Nexus doesn't shine like it used to. I pre-ordered the S4 but i'm having seconds thoughts after playing with a friends S4 today. It didn't WOW me and while using it it had several issues with the operating system and SD card. I want to hold out for a Motor/Google phone but I'm ready now, paying full price so I don't want to get stuck with a POS.

So the S4 is basically out, I have a RAZR MAXX HD and a RAZR (that is due for an upgrade!) I can get the S$ or the MAXX HD for the same price, but I already have 1 MAXX HD and want something new maybe.

iPhone5? S4? What is a guy with an upgrade to consider in the near future?? :-)

I have been waiting to upgrade from my Incredible for a year or two now. I've decided that the S4 is the next one for us.

Now that might mean the next badass phone will be announced after I purchase our S4's this weekend . . .

Verizon will let you part the phone off in twelve monthly payments. Full price no contract renewal. They're battling T-Mobile.

I don't know which Android on Verizon is going to fill the bill for me. I insist on a phone with strong cell reception (weak signal at my work and my house in mountains of WV), and an excellent camera. I sold my GS3 (battery draining problem after update, and weak radios), and my Razr Maxx HD (crappy camera, ho-hum performance, great radios and battery life), and right now, it seems like the only phone for Verizon that has a great camera and really great cell reception is the iPhone 5. However, I am sick of the tiny screen, and lack of customization, and I'm ready to move back to Android, but to what? I've heard the GS4 has the same weak radios as the GS3, and the DNA has the stupid SIM problem. When I had my GS3, I literally could not make a phone call at my WV house, so the radio thing is a real issue for me. BUT, after using the iPhone camera, there is no way I will pay money for a smartphone that cannot consistently take good snapshots. Key word here is "consistently". I know I could get a decent shot some of the time with my Maxx HD, but no where near as consistently as with my iPhone.

What should I be waiting for? Will the HTC One be the answer? I don't trust Motorola to make a phone with a decent camera, otherwise I'd look for their next model (the X phone?).

Thoughts anyone??

....and the DNA has the stupid SIM problem.

I don't think the SIM card issues are wide spread now. A case here and there, but no reason not to get the phone. Absolutely smokes the RAZR HD MAXX, and the radios are much better than the S4.

The DNA is from my point of view the best phone on Verizon right now. I originally bought the S3 but after weak signal they sent me a DNA. Turns out my area is a known service issue area and I will be getting my S3 back. But be careful because the DNA is fragile. I have broken 2 of them in cases from 3 foot falls. The DNA performance is excellent and I have never had SIM card errors.

With my upgrade coming in 11 days I've learned how lackluster the selection from Verizon can be. No S4 Active. Commando 2 is sad. My S3 is ok. I just hate Touchwiz and the battery life. What good is a phone if I have to have it plugged in every two hours? I work in the middle of nowhere so I know how that's a drain to battery life but I could work all day with my Razr Maxx and would only have to charge at the end of the work day (about 14 hours).

Verizon does wait too long for most new stuff (takes a while to shovel in all the lardware).

But, hey... must I wax enthusiastic about the Note 2?

It's a great one... it'll likely run great competition with newer devices.. plus it gets fine battery life.

Stuff like that. :D

I'm debating between the Note 2 and DNA. I'm curious to see about this announcement tomorrow. I absolutely love the radios in Motorola.

I have both the DNA and the Note 2 among others and imo the DNA beats them all hands down. That being said my DNA does have occasional sim card issues.

I am looking at an upgrade right now. I am not in a rush, but my current phone is having some speaker issues from being dropped. I am obviously hard on phones. Overall I have been happy with the Samsung Charge. Its durability has surprised me. I bought my wife a Motorolla Maxx HD a few months ago and I like the way the phone feels, but I haven't played with it much. Should I just go with a HTC DNA or is there something better that is going to release for sure in the next two months or so? The speaker issue is really what is driving me to a new phone. I have been dealing with it for 6 months or so, but I really have a hard time hearing anyone during a phone call. I also wouldn't rule out another HD Maxx either. Let me know.

Cheers,

Brew

HTC One towards the end of summer.
Moto X looks like a dud. Like they were trying to make a cheap but up to par device like the nexus 4, but they released it a year late.
