Root Next Step

After finally rooting today, now on next step of partioning SD

The below is confusing me - on the basis that they were all moved to SD as i had no room, how do i go about moving them back?

Make sure you have moved all SD Apps back to internal memory first. The "Move to SD" option will be redundant so you must undo this

Settings - applications- move to phone.
If it's not highlighted then it's either A, on the phone already or B, not movable.
If it's not movable that's fine leave it.

I was more meaning how can i move them back to phone when there is no space on the phone, which was the reason for putting them on the sd card in the first place?

Confused!

I worked out the backup bit( I thought Nandroid was a separate app, rather than something done from within clockworkmod)

No magic fix, I'm afraid...

Uninstall the biggest ones, like angry birds and updates to Flash, until you have enough room to move the rest back to onternal storage. You'll loose some user settings and data when you do this, but as far as I can tell there's really no other way.

Thanks I'll give that all a go - still having some (many) issues with GParted, but hope i'll get there

Real basic - how to get it to run - tried copying files onto usb, then tried iso image on cd can't get it to boot from cd ( f12 while power on)

I did read a fairly big tutorial on gparted and partition structures etc, but non as basic as i'm stuck with.

thanks again

Its not f12 on all computers. It can be F10. It should say at the bios splash screen.

Although, personally I think its best to use a virtual machine to boot to the ISO so you dont have to turn off your computer. Theres a guide for using vmware in my signature.

Sorry! Somehow managed to forget that you are rooted... Of course Ti backup!

The virtual machine is the best way to go IMHO. No harder to set up than Gparted on usb or cd. Straightforward step by step guide by SUroot.

Just trying to install it from the market -

I believe I undid the apps to SD trick as part of rooting, so install location probably not set to SD - should it be? and if so how?

Many thanks

I'm guessing it is set to SD - otherwise why would installing Ti give messages like that?

Check it's undone. There are various apps, such as Spare Parts or ModInstallLocation that can be used to do this simply, but I don't know whether you'd be able to install those (i.e. I don't think this is a problem with Ti specifically).

Googling that error brings up a lot of suggestions that removing a file called smdl2tmp1.asec from inside .android_secure on your SD card will fix this. You'll probably have to mount the card on a computer to do this. To be safe I'd recommend nandroid backup before doing this. But first, try to ensure apps are installing to internal then try to install the app again.

I had this problem on just one app, install location set internally. I read about this fix too. Although not sure if it was mnt/asec or something.

I actually cant remember what fixed it in the end..

Made some more space on my phone by deleting updates etc and tried again and it installed

Don't know why i was getting message about SD card

One problem to the next

"Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges...............please verify your rom is rooted.

Any sugggestions welcomed ( i do have superuser permission icon in apps )

Seems the way I had burned the image to cd was incorrect in that i used windows and not some stand alone burning software (nero etc). I'm told this didn't create a proper ISO image.

When redoing this I can boot to Gparted, so all systems go again - but i'll wait till tomorrow before having a look at partioning - looks complicated

Yes you have to essentially "clone" the iso image to disc as the iso image contains boot information. Using windows simply writes the iso as a data file to disk, like moving it onto a hard drive.

VMware virtual machine (as per my guide in my signature) is the best way though.

Aghh, not getting on very well with Gparted.

The menus/options etc I'm getting don't resemble those in the guide i'm following - is that because i'm using the cd version - does that matter? I assumed that was only to get it up and running.

Trying to follow these instructions from your sig liks

1) Backup your SD card contents to your PC
2) Download GParted and Burn to CD/USB or use the Gparted with VMware guide.
3) Boot into recovery and select the mount as usb mass storage option (cwm recovery) before plugging the usb in. Plug the usb in when Gparted is at the language selection/keyboard mapping section
4) Resize the existing FAT32 partition from the back, leaving space after it and create an EXT partition in the space. Steps for the GUI are below.
In the drop down menu (top right) select the SD card (be careful not to select your HDD)
Right click on the FAT32 Partition and select resize
Press the Up arrow on "Free Space Following" until you have the desired sizes
Click Resize
right click in unallocated space and select New> EXT format of your choice
Click Apply

File i'm using is gparted-live-0.11.0-10.iso

Hope that helps you help me

Many thanks
