Root Next Step

Hope you sort it out, ive now installed ubuntu and gparted runs straight off it, it's an awesome OS. Far easier to partition sd's as no need to boot from cd or anything, not everyone's cup of tea but it's good IMHO,
I also always use a card reader when I'm partitioning.
As far as apps go, I know you have sorted it now but I install app brain, create an account and sync it, then go on their website and you can print off a list of all your apps, i did this and just installed them all from scratch, again not for everyone.

Another step forward - Got Gparted to work

Thing the issue for me was where the guide said select mount as usb mass storage, when selecting recovery, 8 menu choices game key, one of which was mounts and storage, on selecting this 12 menu choices came up, one of which was mount usb storage, on selecting this unmount came up - took me a very long time to work out what was going on - probably just me though.

Also on Gparted it seemed to stop at various points needing the enter key pressed to proceed, which i hadn't being doing.

So I have a nandroid backup ( does that keep my old rom incase i need to go back??)

I have a Titanium backup - this should give me my old apps back (hopefully i won't loose this when i wipe data? as its on sd card.

I have a mybackup backup - which should give me sms and call logs etc

Have i got that about right??

Also thanks for the Ubuntu suggestion - i actually tried that last night without much success - was going to revisit today if pc was unsuccessful.

mybackup is overkill I think. You can use smsbackup+ to backup sms and call logs to gmail.... Good solution IMHP. Backs up as you receive them and can browse them in your Gmail online too.

But yeah to everything else

Ah things were going too well, done all the wiping and reinstalling the new rom (the dGB280112 one)

All was going great - took the opportunity to change my googlemail to gmail ( was a bit worried by that, but all seems well), installed tiitanium and was half way through - installed 36 of 63 apps - and now says my phone is low on space and can't seem to install.

Hoping this is an easy fix - my partion should be 1000mb

Think i may be remembering that this is the way it will appear but isn't reality?

Is that correct

What partition? dGB doesn't use a partition on SD. You have to use the hboot instead to re-allocate internal storage.

The whole ethos of dGB is to not waste SD space with ext partitions

oh, you've confused me now

What did I miss - and more importantly is it easy fixed.

I really thought i was following to the letter but have obviously missed something - i thought i had to do that for apps2sd+

Not overly worried about wasting space on SD card but would like to get the rest of my apps restored - could you possibly point me to a guide or step me through it.

I take it I would need that partition anyway if i wanted to experiment with different roms in the future?

If your SD card has the space then an ext partition is useful if you swap ROMs in future. dGB won't make any use of it though, as it doesn't include an a2sd script.

To get the best out of dGB you need to be S-Off and to flash a custom hboot with a small /system partition. Read the root memory faq, then ask if anything is unclear - most of us here have done it.

Can anyone confirm if they can get downloads to work from the redux site - not working for me.

Alternatively, could someone please point me in the direction of all the relevant guides to "fix" dGB ( i obviously missed some parts of the other guides).

Most of the my frequently used apps are currently uninstalled due to space availability, i would really appreciate if someone could help me with this.

Many thanks - i feel i should be able to sort this myself but very nervous about doing so

Also i freed up some space by deleting some less used apps, but can't get titanium to re run to install the ones i want

I tested and the download page did not load.

To use dgb properly, you must be s-off and be able to flash custom hboots. It's an advanced rom, for advanced users. If you're not ready for s-off and custom hboots and expect to use SD ext partition, it really isn't the right Rom

Since you have partitioned your sd card, after flashing dGB, you can flash apps_dalvik2ext-UNSIGNED.zip from the redux site: https://sites.google.com/site/romredux/downloads. The download link is working and it works very well with dGB.
you will have to toggle the signature verification a couple of times as it is unsigned.

Awesome thanks for that!

Obviously I could have mentioned this. I didn't as its 100% against my wishes. This is 100% against the design principle of the Rom.

Understand that I cannot stop you doing this, but I will point out that I do not support this solution. By that, I mean any problems with the Rom, you will not get answers from me.

This is what oxygen is for. dGB is a no2ext solution and using a2SD+ scripts is offensive. I spent months developing this Rom, Testing the resilience of my personal relationships and stretching them beyond the unknown, all to ensure no ext partition was required. All that work and suffering does not deserve to have an a2SD+ script thrown back in my face.

This is an advanced Rom for advanced users who can use custom mtd or hboot.

I am so sorry SUroot. I did not in any way mean to offend you. You got me totally wrong. Let me tell you, dGB is by far THE BEST rom out there. Using it, I can so clearly see the hard work you have put into it. Since the day I flashed it, I haven't been able to use any other rom for more than a couple of days and I am on the 65 hboot right now.

But, from time to time I get these urges to flash/try out other roms, which are useless without an ext partition (which is another complement to your rom). So, its much easier to keep the ext even while on dGB, and since I am wasting 1 GB of my sd card, it made sense to me to use app2SD+.

As Hadron mentioned in the post above that gd123 might find the ext partition useful for other roms and since gd123 has already made the ext partition, I suggested this.

I apologize once again if I offended you.

Don't let it get you down pal, alot of us know how much time and effort you put in to this. And I fully appreciate the sole purpose of the rom was to do away with everything non essential and the need for an ext partition.
I just use standard move to sd and that works for me, i get worried if my space drops below 60mb lol,
As you have said countless times, this rom is not for everyone, in my opinion its a rom that NEEDS the 60-65mb hboot.
But chin up dan, you have created an amazing rom, its a credit to you.

Still running dGB - one issue i'm having is that the notification at the top of Wifi and mobile signal sometimes shows black and white only and does show green..

So it will show say 4 bars but white/grey colour not green - during this time I can't load web pages - turning off wifi and back on seems to work.

Is this normal or is there a setting somewhere that i need to change

That's standard on gingerbread. Means Youre not connected to Google services. Nothing to do with dGB

There's someone here (Dan55? Ducky?) who would flash UOT themes in order to stop the colours changing.

Haha, Cheeky! not me, i like to change the colours but i like to know I'm connected to Google servers, dan55 probably flashes several times a day just to simulate the server connection! Hahahahaha. :p
