Root Next steps.....

Hi all, I have rooted my desire using unrevoked, and partitioned my sd card using gparted (1gb).

I now want a2sd+ working on my stock rom (2.29.405.5), i dont want a custom rom.

I think the next step is to install busybox and then have int.d enabled.

Where do i get busybox from and how do i install it to /system/xbin?

I think Teppics rooted stock rom has this already installed.

Dont really wanna install another rom. I have the phone set up as I like and it works for, I just need a2sd+ for extra space.

you can download busy box if you google it then use adb to push it to your device. Theres a link in the rooting faq to adding init.d support and theres an adb faq too.

Its going to be a long slog though.

If you wouldnt mind though, in the memory faq, I had something I wanted someone with a clean build to test. It probably wont work but its easier than adding init.d so if it does work great but it wont cause any damage if it doesnt. Take a nandroid if you do try it though. Would be interested to find out if it works or not.

Teppic's ROM is just stock Sense, only with init.d support and (optional) a2sd+. It's probably simpler than trying to add it by hand.

There's a 2.29.405.5 version with init.d, so if your phone is unbranded you won't notice the difference (if branded, flashing this would remove the network branding).
This really is so similar that you should be able to flash without a wipe, so you wouldn't lose any data or apps. I used an earlier version as my first custom ROM, and did exactly this.

Take a nandroid backup first (always a good idea), and if you don't like it you can just restore and be back where you are now.

I googled busybox and downloaded a file ending in .tar.bz2 is this the file i need to push to /system/xbin?

I dont mind a long slog :D

I am willing to give somthing a try in the name of testing. what is it you wanted testing?

it shouldnt be .txt. It should have no extension. Can you remove the extension?

armv6

You wont need busybox for my test no.

No worries, i will test for you before i go any further in my own quests. I will do it tomorrow though as thats a lot of text to type especially after a few beers! :D

Yeah i removed the extension, its just a file now. will push to /system/xbin using adb.

Just copy the text from the phandroid app and paste it in the script in script manager.

I must admit I'm almost certain it won't work and I have an idea why but just want to rule it out so huge props for helping me do that. It's one of those what if things...

Morning all, gave SUroot's script a go.....Just want to make sure i have put it the right place, it is on the root on my memory card (FAT32 side).

Had a bit of trouble copying the text into the script manager, tried the phandroid app and it wouldnt let me copy any text and any links i clicked just started up in my web browser which doesnt show all the txt in the scrollable box.
so i just copied and created a .txt file on pc and placed on memory card which i then opened with script manager.

Any ways, saved the script and rebooted phone and nothing seems to have happened. if i go to settings and sd/phone storage the internal memory available is as before (30MB) and it shows the same in app2sd free app.

I went to script manager and decided to run the file script manually and got the following-

exec sh 'mnt/sdcard/a2sd'
: not found
busybox: not found
: not found
busybox: not found
: not found
busybox: not found
: not found
: not found
/mnt/sdcard/a2sd: 10: Syntax error: word unexpected

PS i called the file a2sd

Ah bugger, you do need busybox then...

Can you adb push it please and retest?

Think i have done it but never used adb before.

I booted phone into cwm recovery main page then opened cmd on my pc.

I typed 'adb shell' and pressed enter and it returned '~ #'
On the same line i typed 'mount /system' and pressed enter and it returned '~ #' i then typed 'exit'
I then typed 'adb push c:\busybox /system/xbin/busybox'
I returned displaying a transfer rate and the amount of data sent.

Rebooted and check /system/xbin for the file and it was there.
Went to script manager and ran again and got the following-

exec sh 'mnt/sdcard/a2sd'
: not found
/mnt/sdcard/a2sd: busybox: permission denied
: not found
/mnt/sdcard/a2sd: busybox: permission denied
: not found

/mnt/sdcard/a2sd: 10: Syntax error: word unexpected

OK boot back to recovery, adb shell, mount system - then:

Code:
chmod 777 /system/xbin/busybox

That should change your busybox permissions

I asume that i have busybox installed correctly now?

Ran the script again----

exec sh '/mnt/sdcard/a2sd'
: not found
mont: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext
failed: No such file or directory
: not found
chown: /sd-ext: No such file or directory

chmod: /sd-ext: No such file or directory

OK thank you for testing. I dont think its going to work. Thank you very much for your patience but I dont want to take up any more of your time.

You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.

No problem at all. Its very hard for me to give something back because there are a lot of people who have loads more knowledge than me so i like to help out in any way i can. :)

Am i ok to just delete the script and carry on as normal or would u advise restoring the nandroid back up?
