Root Nexus 5 Advice

PointX

Lurker
Hello. Excuse me if i involuntary broke some rules of forum and about my grammar.
I know u must heard and saw a lot of inquiries of such but please bear with me.
I need your help(advice).
I am in a quarrel with my self about whether to keep 5.1 or revert back to 4.4.4.
5.1 seems to me glichy and feels still unfinished. What are your advices? What are differences in battery and overall performance of OS-s.

And if by any chance could u give me step by step guide to downgrade i would appreciate.

I really liked kitkat but I've been happy with lollipop. I get good battery life and I like some of the new features.

If you decide to downgrade, you can use this guide here: http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-how-to-flash-a-nexus-factory-image-manually.706533/

If you decide to unlock the bootloader and flash images to downgrade, you might as well flash the lollipop images first and see if it runs better.

Also, before you flash anything, you might try wiping the cache and see if it fixes any issues you're having. You can follow these instructions to wipe the cache partition:

  1. If your phone is on, turn it off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Down button, and then press and hold the Power button at the same time until the phone turns on. You'll see the word "Start" with an arrow around it.
  3. Press the Volume Down button twice to highlight "Recovery mode."
  4. Press the Power button to start Recovery mode. You'll see an image of an Android robot with a red exclamation mark and the words "No command."
  5. While holding the Power button, press and release the Volume Up button once.
  6. Press the Volume Down button to highlight "wipe cache" and press the Power button to select it.
  7. Press the Volume Down button seven times to highlight "Yes" and press the Power button to select it.
  8. After the wipe is complete, select the option to reboot your device.

Thank you for answer. One questio thou; do i need to make back up of stuff on mine Mobile or everything is left?

If you're going to wipe cache, everything will be still be there. If you're going to flash the factory image, it will wipe the device completely so you will want to back up important things to an external source.

No one actualy sugested wipe cache so far so i didnt know about that. What do i gain by doing it? And any possible side effects?

Well, the cache can become corrupted at times especially during OTA updates. This can cause performance issues like lag and I'm sure there's other things. I saw a detailed thread about it a long time ago, but I'm sure someone else can get far more in depth with corrupted cache than I can. Maybe @EarlyMon or @scary alien

There's not really a risk of losing anything wiping the cache partition. The cache partition is separate from /data and /system. The cache will just rebuild itself from scratch when you wipe partition. All your user data will remain in tact. Expect the first boot to take awhile after wiping the cache (even more so now on Lolipop). Don't panic, just let it finish. It really does take awhile on lollipop using ART instead of Dalvik.

That's odd... Did you get a confirmation upon a successful cache wipe? I wipe the cache fairly often for various reasons and it always takes awhile to rebuild all of my apps and stuff afterward...

Sevnth step of your guid is a bit confusing: Press the Volume Down button seven times to highlight "Yes" and press the Power button to select it.

I meant to change that. That was for a factory reset. I don't know the exact amount of presses. Basically you just use the volume key to navigate to the confirmation that yes, you do want to wipe cache. Then you press the power button to select that option.
