Help Nexus 5/Hangouts Problem?

Hi.
I am new here, and I recently got a new Nexus 5, and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. I searched the depths of the internet, and could not find anything. I updated hangouts and I noticed that some people would not respond to SMS messages I sent. However, I did a factory reset on my phone (other issues), which resolved all of my problems. I was on the old hangouts for a while, and everyone was texting as normal. When I re-updated, I noticed that people stopped responding to SMS that I sent once again. Is this a phone problem/hangouts problem/me overreacting to being ignored? Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

It could be hangouts I would clear out SMS and see if any come thru! Are they receiving your texts? I use hangouts never had issues but I have recently downloaded google messenger and have had no issues either!

Sounds like an issue with hangouts. Is it set as your default SMS app?

Try sending yourself SMS messages and see what happens. This helped me when I was trying to sort out APN info for MMS messages. Much easier than sending to someone else and then trying to ask them if they got it or not.
