Nexus 5's Best Features

Frankly I think you're going to be so impressed and happy with your new Nexus you'll find it very enjoyable to learn even more about Android than you may know now.

If you're new to Android you'll find it easier than you may have anticipated. This latest model is so well equipped with powerful components it'll easily handle future versions of the Android OS.

I'm a multi-platform technologist, as much as I enjoy the variety, my new Nexus 5 puts my iPhone 5S to shame.

I had an iPhone 4 and I hated it. I've used androids for about 3 years now. My very first one was an LG Optimus or something that I found on the side if the road with the battery and backing scattered. It was cool but I could only hold two apps and it was slow and ugly. Then I had another cheapo boost android before I got my skyrocket which I rooted and flashed PA to which I then sold and bought the HTC One X which I got now and am so over it. Never got around to rooting it and I'm pissed the ATT version is the only one still stuck on 4.1. I'm ready for the Nexus experience instead of experiencing these newer OSs years later.

i just discovered today that when people send you pictures in texts you cans swipe through all the previous pictures that were texted in that current text thread. thought it was very cool and very handy.

battery life is amazing imo, (coming from a Gnex though barely 1h of screen time before needs a charge). not sure how people think the battery life is bad, perhaps they do nothing but play games and watch videos? but i easly manage just under 4 hours screen time and by the end of the day im sitting around 30%.

Nice. I hope i get one with a good battery. My One X sucks in that aspect. But I use batteryguru and the built in power saver which limits performance just to make it through an 8 hour day with around 1 hour screen on time. But i do play alot of games when im on break and after work. When did you give it its first charge?

Ok after using it for a few days, I am noticing I get about a 15 hr day with about 3.5 to 4 hr screen time. In my book, that's awesome. I can go somewhere near the end of he day (which I do often) and not worry that I forgot to charge it again halfway through the day :)

Coming from a One X myself I'd have to say my favorite thing is the ability to finally multitask without having to reload everything! It was driving me nuts to just switch between even two apps and have to reload every time. I know other phones don't have this problem but the Nexus 5 does it beautifully. The raw speed overall of this phone is awesome.

Another thing I love is the swipe down from full screen apps. That wasn't available in previous versions (that I have had, anyway.) once you were in a full screen app, if you wanted to check your notifications, you had to hit home. Now a swipe down will do, no matter what app! :-)

That's amazing. I've always been annoyed by this in previous versions. Thank you for pointing it out to me.

Something I've loved is how well Google Now understands me. I use speech-to-text a lot and my Siri always misspelled what I said. Especially if I spoke in contractions. Google Now is deciphering better. Also, I like that it types as I speak rather than listening to my whole sentence then typing it out when I stop.
(Though, I did enjoy having funny conversations with Siri every now and then. I wish Google Now had a bit more personality.)

Firstly, the Nexus 5 is the best phone I've owned at the time I've first got it for some time.

I liked the HTC One, I didn't like the N4, HTC Sensation and I loved the Galaxy Nexus (GSM). The N5 is my favourite since the GNex.

What I love:

Screen size and quality.
Speed and smoothness.
The battery life for me is more than acceptable.
New features such as "OK Google", Smart Dialer and the new way widgets and home screens work.
The build quality. I'm glad they lost the glass back and that dreadful pattern from the N4.

The only real negative for me is the camera shutter lag.

Another thing I have discovered I love about it is I can have a ton of stuff "open" on my phone (meaning I didn't clear the apps out - don't know how else to say it, you know when you push the button on the right and it shows you all your open apps?) and it doesn't affect performance.
I know it's not SUPPOSED to affect performance, but on my old phone and sometimes on my tablet it DOES. but not on the nexus 5. so nice :)

Yeah on my previous device I spent a lot of time closing unused apps frequently because they would slow down my phone. Not only that but when you switch between apps on the N5, it seems like they stay loaded. Where as on my One X every time I switched apps, even if it was still open, it would have to reload completely. The N5 really has brought a lot to the table with KitKat. It may be my new favorite OS, right above HTC.

AOSP has a much smaller memory footprint than touchwiz or sense, so the "multitasking" can remember a lot more of what you were doing.

Well I surely am impressed by the speed if this phone. It's nice not worrying about what's open and using clean master frequently to clear ram. I mean this thing is nearly instant. I hardly wait for anything, using the same apps I used on my One X.

Most of that difference can be attributed to there being only (from my memory) 200-300MB free RAM of 1GB total available on the One X versus there being 1.2GB free RAM out of 2GB total on my nexus 5 at the moment

Granted, the nexus 5 also has a more powerful CPU, so that helps as well.

How about in Hangout you can slide your text message right or left and it will archive it. That's cool. You can then find it under archived messages.

Hey y'all! Gonna throw my quick opinion on the Nexus 5 since the thread is meant for all the good things about it. First of all WOW, this phone is awesome! I work for AT&T and I play with ALL the new phones, iOS, Windows, Androids, and I don't even own a AT&T phone because I feel that cell phone carriers ruin the phone! So to me the HUGE advantage is buying a device such as the Nexus 5 that Google intended it to be!

So when people compare Android to iPhones I believe that it is skewed and my reason for that is because when you are buying a Android device with so much bloatware that it ruins the experience of the phone. I have owned the S3, Note 2, S4, LG G2 but TouhWiz RUINS the phone! That goes for any cell phone manufacture custom UI too!

As for battery life, I make it through a whole day easily. I also got a wireless charger that works perfect. I have it set up right next to my bed so I dont have to go searching for the cord at night, all I have to do is set it on the pad and next morning good to go!

Camera it's average! Not going to lie, but the built in features work flawless and there is so many edit options which really helps improve your photos!

Finally a stock keyboard that is accurate with auto correct and has emoji cons without installing a second messaging app! Love this keyboard wouldn't change it at all!

I could go on and on but overall I am very happy with the device, it just works like it's suppose to. I would of kept the LG G2 it was a hard decision but this phone is going to be future proof hopefully and I do not need all the gimmicky features that hardly work smoothy anyways. Plus it paid the the Nexus anyways!
