I bought a new Nexus 6 ( the one released last year) a month back .... Could anyone tell me why I'm not getting the marshmallow update from Google. Would it take longer to get the new update?

There are certainly wide-ranging (both in time and location) roll-outs of OTA updates, so I'm guessing you're not alone.
Is you device ever on wi-fi? (I guessing that OTAs "like" (prefer) to be received over a wi-fi connection vs. using you phone's cell radio).
Probably the best thing might be to have a read-through and/or post in this thread:
There is also the alternative of manually flashing the MarshMallow factory images and/or side-loading the OTA update--pretty sure both of those alternatives are discussed in the above thread.
