Nexus 6 Size Comparison/Size discussion

Looked at some phones when I was out and about on Saturday. Was able to look at the iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy Mega, Note 4, etc. to get an idea on how large the Nexus 6 would be.

My conclusion: yes it will be a big phone, but not unmanageable. The hardest part will be figuring out how to carry it around with me on a daily basis. I have a feeling I'm going to have to get some new pants with pockets large enough to fit the device in (I'm thinking of using cargo pants/jeans for daily use).

But the benefits of having the larger display should more than make up for the slight inconvenience of having to adapt to carrying it around.

So, with that, I think I've pretty much set my mind to the fact that this will be my next phone. Now to just hope that I'm able to get in on the first wave of pre-orders before they sell out.

My reaction was precisely the reverse: when I saw the iP6+ I thought it was absurdly and ridiculously huge - and I do literally mean ridiculous: a friend said he'd ordered one and EVERYONE starting ripping the **** out of him.

Really don't understand what Google were thinking. Apparently, the paperback-size phones only really sell in Asia: everywhere else they're a minority of a minority interest.

Looks like my next phone won't be a Nexus.

They're probably thinking that with the success of the Note series along with others, why not?

The Phone Arena specs for the HTC Evo 4G were never edited - they describe the screen as a 4.3" giant.

Times change, people respond to choices.
I will help your list

Nexus 6: 493 Pixels per inch
Droid Turbo: 565 Pixels per inch
iPhone 6+: 401 Pixels per inch
Note 4: 515 Pixels per inch
OnePlus 1: 401 Pixels per inch
LG G3: 538 Pixels per inch
Galaxy S5: 432 Pixels per inch

Iow - all resolved the same to the human eye. :)

Btw - speaking of size, lest we forget, this started it all -

I couldn't resist. :D

sorry for OT but .... :o

my first phone was a motorola bag phone circa 1990. 3 full watts of stereo power, enough to kill! :p

my second phone was the motorola brick style as seen in EM's post. I paid 50 dollars for it with a 2 year agreement with an ATT carrier (Bellsouth Mobility). that may have been 93? Then the phone I still have and love to this day:

the IBM Simon. old school tech :car:

THE first PDA phone. touch screen with stylus. could send and receive faxes. had a modem built in. It took PCMCIA cards. I had three. I had a 250mb flash card that cost at the time about 200 bucks in 1990s dollars plus a 200 mb, and shown here with a sandisk 32MB card. Purchased new back in the 90s, that card cost me about 70 ish dollars in 1990s money.

so PLEASE dont complain about a 6 inch screen..

and dont get me started about the hitachi G1000 !!! ;) (I still have that sucker too)

I'm OK with the size of the phone; although I think a 5.5" screen would have been optimal for this phone. I printed up a to scale sheet just to see if it would fit in my pocket (not taking into account the thickness of the phone of course). It does fit in my pocket, barely, but with a case on it the phone is going to be a beast. I'm going to hold off and wait for the carriers to get display units in, and then go check the Nexus 6, Note 4, and Droid Turbo - and come home with the one I like best. There wasn't even a question for me when previous Nexus devices were released - I never considered another phone. This time, I'm going to check these 3 out first.

Yeah i wanna pre-order but I really need to check this thing out in person and get a hands on feel for it...

Actually if you look at the iPhone 6 with its 5.5"display or the OnePlus One or Find 7 with their 5.5" displays you'll notice the phones are very close in size to the Nexus 6 but with the smaller displays and thick bezels. I'd much rather have more viewing area as offered by the Nexus 6.

I know everyone can have different preferences, but I'm with jdduncan11 on this. A 5.5" screen, with a minimal bezel would have been perfect for my usage.
The N6 will require the use of 2 hands, for most activities... Even swiping on the keyboard will be hard for me (unless the keyboard can be right justified like on the note).

Having said that, I'll be ordering the N6 as soon as they open up :)

jus leave a 64 gig version for me. I dont care what color, even tho blue looks cool but whatever I just need a damn phone (as explained on xda lol)

Hi

I'm really considering to buy this new nexus device, but the only thing I'm not sure about is the size. I really love a big screen, but I also want to be able to put it in my pocket (always).

What are your opinions? Atm I have a samsung galaxy s3 and this phone is not noticeable when in my pocket.

And btw... what an amazing beast of a phone!! :D

It's big. I am still getting used to the size. Did I mention it's big? I was very comfortable with my N4, but now that I've had the N6 for a couple of days, (2, to be exact ;) ) the N4's screen seems tiny.

As for pocketing it, i haven't really had any problems, even in my "skinny" jeans. I always keep my phone in my front right pocket with the screen facing inward, and this doesn't feel any bulkier than my N4.

Oh, and it's big. :D

Thanks for sharing your experience :D There is no doubt that it is big indeed. I'm happy to hear that it fits in your pockets, even in your skinny jeans. I'm almost certain to pre-order it (it arrives on 24th of december in my country). Any other opinions are really appreciated ;)

It has been a long time that I felt like a little boy again who wants his toy badly haha :D

I'm coming from a Galaxy S3 myself, so I can relate. The phone is a bit unwieldy, but that huge screen makes up for that by being just so much nicer to work on: typing, viewing web pages, watching media, all are a much more pleasant experience on the Nexus 6.

Pocketability was my main concern as well. For my S3 I had been using carpenter pants/jeans for the most part, and I was able to fit them in my leg pocket with those. The Nexus 6 wasn't going to fit in these, so I went out and bought a bunch of cargo jeans (leg pockets 7" wide x 8" deep) since it was about time for me to get some new pants anyway, and I'm able to fit the phone in there. I don't like using the regular side pockets, as in the summer months when I'm not wearing a jacket that's where I tend to keep my wallet and keys, but it seems like it would be an option, at least with the brand I got (Wrangler).

Do you have a case on it? Or intend on using one? I would think it would make it unpocketable with a case.

I already ordered 2 cases, but I'm not sure yet if I would use them. I will depend on if they will still fit in my pocket. (only payed 3 euros = 4 dollar)

I'm not going to lie, its bigger than I thought. But then again I like big phones. After using this, there's no way I'm going to anything smaller.

I like the size of the phone even tough one-handed use, for me, is not so easy. I plan to case(one of those heavy duty ones) mine while I'm work, it will be much needed there. But outside that case won't be on, either naked or maybe a slim case at times.

I don't mind the size. Coming from a OnePlus, It really isn't that much bigger. I welcome the extra real-estate, but this will most likely be the maximum size for me.

I checked out the Nexus 6 in person at T-Mobile yesterday. Just as I had estimated, I find it the ideal size display and comfortable to hold. Fits in my front pocket so I'll be able to go without a screen protector as I usually do.

I'm waiting until I find them in stock at the Play Store. Forget the carriers even if we can remove the apps. My Nexus 5 came from Google and I'm returning for the Nexus 6 :)

This thing will be perfectly pocketable, assuming you wear pants that actually fit.

I carry my Nexus 7 everywhere in my pocket, fully cased. Not a problem. Don't worry about it.

Since I have my tab in my pocket, I'll likely be picking up a holster of sorts to keep my phone on my belt. I've always kept my phones on my hip for faster access.
