Help Nexus 7 2nd Gen Update

JMFallone

Lurker
I recently purchased the new Nexus 7. It is currently running 4.3.3 JWR66N build. I have experienced the multi-touch problems, and have also had no ability to connect to Netflix through the newest version of the app.
Strangely, when I check for updates, I am promptly told that there are none available. I continue on like this for usually around two days and then the device will notify me that an update is available. I touch "restart to update" and it boots into recovery mode and starts installing the update and then randomly stops and says "error."
The update will then not show up again for another two days or so.
I have tried updating while plugged in, while fully charged, I've tried restarting after the notification etc.
Quite frankly I'm a little confused by this behavior. Any tips would be appreciated!

Have you rooted the device or modified it in any way, other than just changing standard settings and installing apps?

The fact that it's running JWR66N is a huge red flag. The new Nexus 7 should be running JSS15* depending on if it got the update yet or not. So either there is some non stock firmware on it, or it's actually a first generation Nexus 7.

Thumbs up to jhawkkw. He's right. JWR66N is the first 4.3 update for the first gen N7. I should have noticed that. The latest security patch would bring it up to JWR66Y, if it would install. I'm not sure why the OP thinks he has a next gen N7. Obviously not. Anything "non stock" in the /system directory could cause the OTA to fail. OP can easily download and flash entire JWR66Y ROM directly from the WugFresh toolkit.
