Nexus 7 For School?

Hello Android Forum users :)

I have started considering selling my iPad 2 for a Nexus 7 2013. My primary use for the iPad is school work. I type my notes and essays on it, mostly, with occasional gaming. I also use it as my agenda for keeping track of classes and assignments.

I want to sell my iPad 2 because it is starting to show its age with the new updates, and there is some bad keyboard lag with the new update.

Is the Nexus 7 good for school for typing papers and notes and such? I might consider getting a bluetooth keyboard, but I just want to know that the size, battery life, and keyboard is good for school and typing notes.

Thank you!

In my opinion you would need a Bluetooth keyboard, but the N7 should be just fine. The virtual keyboard works fine for entering passwords, but you could not touch type on it to enter class notes. On the other hand, voice recognition with the Swype keyboard is excellent.

i'm not in school anymore, but i go to workshops and take notes with my Nexus 7 (while everyone else takes out their iPads).

and i do use a bluetooth keyboard. it just helps a lot.

As a recent graduate, I think using android tablets or iPads for notetaking isn't as good as a tablet PC with ms one note. It could depend on the major though. For majors where you'll wrote a lot of symbols or draw diagrams, a tablet PC is loads better. I did all my notes for my mechanical engineering degree on my tablet PC. A huge advantage here was that I always had access to all my notes without having to carry around books of notes. And looking up old notes was commonplace for me. I used a HP tm2t until I broke it. Then a VAIO duo. I haven't had a chance to try any of the stylus equipped tablets and didn't consider them since I couldn't ink in the android one note app. But it also didn't make a lot of sense to carry around a laptop and a tablet. Some majors may require the use of software that can't be run on a tablet. I would highly recommend trying to find access to testing out a tablet PC with one note. It's powerful software and really easy to organize. You can also attach photos, and documents. In some classes, the professor provided the lecture slides ahead of time. I would just import them into one note and then ink my notes on top of it. Ultimately, there are many good ways to take notes, so choose what you think will work best for you. But do consider all your options.

If you combine the N7 with Google Docs and Google Calandar you will have a very nice solution for school where you can easily transition from computer to tablet to smartphone with next to no effort. The N7 is great for quick notes and things like that. As has been said above, you may want a keyboard for typing longer documents.

As far as battery I'v only killed mine between reasonable charges (off the charger in the morning, back on when i go to bed) when I play games on it non stop for 6+ hours. For general use it easily lasts all day.

My $0.02. I hope this helps.
