Help Nexus 7 - Im having a major problem

this is a nightmare - and Im a complete noob

I have a lot of data (photos and such) on the device and for the last 3 days or so (after being charged overnight) the device is turning itself on - getting to the password page and then immediately turning itself off, and then repeating the process until the battery dies.

-I have tried leaving it to charge more
-taking the back off (I didn't touch anything though)
-attaching it to a regular computer to see if there is any way I can save anything on it, but it is saying there is no data shown on it

what could this be - people are saying that it could be the 4.2 2 jellybean update but I have no clue or could it be the battery?? also Is there a way to rectify any of it or am I mightily screwed - It is warranted but its more the photos that I am upset about :(

please help as it is my entire life pretty much (for general internetting)

if none of the above makes any sense I include a video...

Wow, I had something similar happen to mine, especially the part where there was no battery shown (just the lightning bolt). For me it happened after a small drop that wiggled the battery cable loose.

I just popped off the back cover and reset the cable and all was well. I'd like to hear some other thoughts before you try that though.

If you plug in your tablet to charge, either by plug or USB, does it stay on or does it shut down anyway?

That's definitely an annoying issue though :-\

nope - it continually turns on then shuts itself off :(

it has been dropped more than a couple of times (thanks to my 3yr old) I tried taking the back off - but nothing looked out of place.

It didn't look out of place for me either. There is a little white plug with four wires just under the cover. See if you can use your fingernail to push it into place a little tighter.

Mine doesnt have four wires - it has 6
2 black
1 yellow
1 white
and 2 red and there is no white plug..

Sorry, yess, thats the one on the top right. I don't have mine in front of me and was going from memory.:o

When I fixed mine it only moved ever so slightly, but worked fine after that.

sorry I had a bad time with Paint lol which one?? (dumbness is at an all time high - due to lack of coffee lol)

also - do I press it in or move it left/right ect??

sorry for the repeat post - I thought id deleted on and now i cant get rid of the last one lol (having a bad day :()

I gave the bit with the wires a wiggle and I have put the nexus on to charge.
it doesn't seem to be having a problem at the moment (ie its not instantly turning on/off) I will get back to you later once it is charged to say whether this has remedied the problem

No worries. I'm junk without coffee either. You should be able to pinch the black connector you have circled in green sliding the left part inside of the right part. Does that make sense?

Ive just had a look and it looks like it is still doing as before - although the battery is psychically charging now (it is at 14% after about 90 minutes)

do you think that this is something im going to have to get repaired professionally or get a new battery???

Sorry I left you hanging. I was at swimming lessons with the little guy in my avatar. Sound like good news that the battery is taking a charge. I'd let it charge up a bit (it probably already has by now:rolleyes:) and see if it acts better. If not, you may have another cable loose inside but I haven't delved any deeper than the back cover myself.

I'll see if I can find an ADB backup routine for you (or some help on doing it) as you may be able to get your photos and other important stuff off even though you cannot boot.

I take it your N7 still isn't playing nice after a charge.:(

The software is all available for download here at AF. It's actually a subset of the Android Development Kit. I'm OK with it, but I'm going to ask someone with real skills to help you out.
