Nexus 7 Pre-Release/Speculation Thread

AntimonyER

CHANGED FROM AF ADDICT MIKESTONY
Well Google I/O is almost here, and along with Jellybean (4.1), the other big story is the possible announcement of the Nexus 7, rumored to be manufactured in partnership with ASUS. So now that we have opened a forum dedicated to the device, lets get it started with the pre-release/speculation thread. :)

I will start it off with today's spec leak, courtesy of Phandroid:

That intrigues me. I wonder if it will have comparable graphical horsepower to the iPad.

I'm in a lucky situation where my wife is pretty cool with my gadget "issues". I plan on getting one of these as soon as possible. For my uses, I think a 7" size is probably the sweet spot. The Nook Color was sized right but lacked any horsepower.

Yeah, I like my Flyer at that size but it is a bit underpowered. My Prime is the go to for going out even though it's a touch heavier.
Agree with you on the NC. I bought it since I had a gift certificate but even with CM7, it's slow!

i was just going to buy second galaxy tab 2 7". Saw it in the news seems like i'm gonna wait for it!

1gb of ram ? wouldn't 2gb be better? dont you think? $199 is a killer price! Whats Amazon's opinion on that one? On the other hand people say Nexus 7 has no sd card and rear facing camera.. Tab 2 7" offers that.. so $249 vs $199.. i still would prefer Nexus

Personally I don't care about it not having a camera. Beyond playing around, I never used the camera in either my Transformer or iPad. The lack of an SD card is annoying. It bugs me to no end with my GNex. To me a removable SD card is insurance against a bricked device. You can always get your data.

Someone at Google has a bug up their butt over SD cards and it's really annoying.

For $199 I am all in for the Nexus 7. Just hoping that it will do decent navigation when tethered. Everything else is gravy.

I am Ok'd for one, maybe two. Was going to get Evan the Asus kid tab they announced but it cannot be found. If I can't find him one for his birthday, he's getting one of these with dad.

Nice! Make sure you get a screen protector ;)

One thing that Google MUST do is market this thing. I don't recall seeing any galaxy nexus ads, EVER. I do see a lot of ads for various Motorola and Samsung devices and look how popular they are. You have to wonder if Google just expects people to figure out about their devices by accident. Heck, I wouldn't have even known about the Nexus 7 if I hadn't searched for what had happened to "that Google tablet" that I heard about months ago. That being said though, I am very happy that I did learn about it. I can't wait to start pestering my local BB about it's arrival. :D

I don't think it will need too much of a marketing push based on the specs and price point rumored.

The rumor last week was that they were shipping for immediate release. I hope that is the case.

But how do they expect people to figure out about it without marketing? One thing I could see them doing is putting a mention of it under the Google search bar. That would be in view of millions of people every day lol

I too could care less with a camera. The front facing camera is all I need. I'll never take pics with a tablet.
The sd issue seems to be the only issue I have with it. Though a USB support, or lack of, would irk me.
Doesn't matter though. I'm buying one as soon as I can. Can't wait!

Strange question but do you think if trend holds, the Asus TF101 dock will work with the Nexus 7? thickness will be fine, I am curious about the connector. Trying to sell my Tablet right now, but If the dock works fine im just gonna do a deep discount on the tab I have.

Excited for this tablet. I have waited and waited for a table (with the power I want) to reach the right price point. I have seen speculation that this will release between $159 and $200. At $200 it's a steal, so not worried about the final price. I will be grabbing for sure. I was thinking of going for the latest Asus Transformer (priced around $349-$399, but it's 10 inch). The GTab (should be known as that hence forth :D) seems like a perfect solution for me as I will be reading a bit on it. Can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Highly unlikely. And, if the leaked photos are true, it looks to have the same 3 pin connector as the Galaxy Nexus. Probably used for a keyboard or some sort of docking station.

Immediate release would be a nice surprise. I'm tired of companies announcing a product then delaying for what feels like forever. I'm still feeling the sting of the GNex release debacle.

Does anyone know what time the announcement is supposed to be made today?

Well the keynote starts in about 30 minutes. You can watch it here

Wild we have seen no confirmation on a micro sd slot yet. Perhaps its omission from the specs means it ain't got one.
